The Windows Live Toolbar is a free add-on that can be installed on your browser to enhance your online experience. It's designed to help you stay organized and connected.

The toolbar provides a quick and easy way to access various Windows Live services, including Windows Live Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger.

You can also use the toolbar to search the web and access other useful features.

Windows Live Toolbar

Windows Live Toolbar was a browser extension toolbar for Internet Explorer. It superseded MSN Search Toolbar.

Windows Live Toolbar provided a simple search interface that starts to list results as the user types in a search query and uses Bing as its search engine.

The toolbar also allowed users to synchronize their Internet Explorer favorites across multiple computers.

Microsoft acquired Onfolio and integrated it into Windows Live Toolbar. Onfolio was an online research tool that could be used to collect data from the web and make annotations.

As of August 2008, Microsoft announced that Onfolio has been discontinued.

Older versions of Windows Live Toolbar provided a form filler and a highlight viewer, but these features have been removed.

Windows Live Toolbar was included with Windows Live Essentials "Wave 3" release.

The Windows Live Toolbar has just been released out of beta, and it's available for download. It's a 1.29MB download that adds a search bar and a customizable strip of icons to your web browser.

The toolbar works on Internet Explorer 6 or any of the IE 7 betas. You'll need to agree to a somewhat scary license agreement before installing it, which is standard behavior for most browser toolbars.

The toolbar features a plethora of tools by default, including a phishing filter based on the Windows OneCare Advisor, a picture and web page archiving tool called Onfolio, an RSS feed button, tabbed browsing, context-sensitive right-click menus for highlighted text, and quick access to maps and directions.

You can choose to install only the basic toolbar or the toolbar plus Windows Desktop Search. After installation, the program will ask if you want to participate in a feedback survey and offers to set your IE home pages and default search providers to MSN, which are checked by default.

IE needs to be restarted after the toolbar is installed. The new toolbar adds lots of features, but not all of them are stellar, such as the tabbed browsing addon that feels somewhat sluggish and clunky.
