Verizon has expanded its Wi-Fi service to include free access for residential broadband customers using certain DSL or FiOS internet services plans. This means that nine million Verizon customers can now use free Wi-Fi at hotspots across the country.

Only netbooks or laptops will have access to free Wi-Fi at Boingo hotspots for now, but support for smartphones is expected at a future date. This is a significant expansion of Verizon's Wi-Fi service, which was previously only available to business customers.
