Télécoms Sans Frontières was founded in 1998, a direct result of the founders' experiences during the first Gulf War and the Balkan war between 1991 and 1997, where they realized the need for telecommunications in emergency contexts.
TSF's first mission was during the Kosovo War, where they provided satellite phone calls to refugees fleeing the conflict. This marked the beginning of their operations in the field.
