Multitasking on the iPad has never been easier. The iPad's split-screen feature allows you to have two apps open at the same time.
To access this feature, simply swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the dock, and then drag an app from the dock to the left or right side of the screen. This will split the screen in half, allowing you to use two apps simultaneously.
The iPad also allows you to have up to three apps open at the same time, using a feature called Slide Over. This feature allows you to slide an app from the right side of the screen onto the main screen, where you can use it alongside your other two apps.

Multitasking Basics
You can multitask on your iPad in two main ways: Split View and Slide Over. I've found these features to be super helpful when I need to reference two apps at the same time.
In Split View, two apps appear side-by-side, allowing you to resize them by dragging the slider between them. This is great for tasks like browsing the web and taking notes.
With Slide Over, one app appears in a smaller floating window that you can drag to the left or right side of your screen. I like to use this feature to quickly check my email or messages without leaving the app I'm currently using.
Leaving a Group
You can remove an app from a group by dragging it to the Recent Apps list.
If you want to minimize an app without removing it, select "Minimize" from the ellipsis menu on an app window.
To remove an app from a group, you can also drag it to the Recent Apps list.

Stage Manager
To enable Stage Manager, head to Settings –> Home Screen & Multitasking –> Stage Manager and toggle on "Use Stage Manager on iPad." You can also swipe down from the top right to open Control Center and tap the Stage Manager icon to enable or disable it.
You can adjust the layout options for Stage Manager by long-pressing the icon, then checking or unchecking Recent Apps or Dock. These options are only accessible when Stage Manager is on.
To unhide the Recent Apps or Dock quickly, swipe in from the right edge (Recent Apps) or bottom edge (Dock). This can be helpful when you have a lot of app windows open at once.
To make an app fill the screen, tap the ellipsis (•••) icon at the top of each window and choose "Enter Full Screen." If the app is in a group, entering full-screen mode will remove it.
Here's a quick rundown of the ways to make an app group in Stage Manager:
- Use the ellipsis (•••) icon in an app window and choose "Add Another Window."
- Select an app from the App Switcher or Dock.
- Drag an app icon or preview from the Recent Apps or Dock to the currently open app window.
You can only have four apps per group, so if you try to add another app to a group with four already, it will kick out one of the other apps. This means you need to be strategic about which apps you group together.

Split View and Slide Over
Split View and Slide Over are two powerful multitasking features on your iPad that allow you to work with multiple apps at the same time.
To move a Slide Over app, use the Multitasking button to drag it to the left or right. You can also turn a Slide Over app into a Split View app by tapping the Multitasking button, then tapping the Split View Button, or by touching and holding the Multitasking button and dragging the app to the left or right edge of the screen.
To hide a Slide Over app, touch and hold the Multitasking button, then swipe the app off the screen to the left or right. This will remove the app from view, but you can always swipe left to get it back again.
You can also adjust the size of your Split View apps by dragging the divider between them. This will allow you to customize the amount of screen space each app takes up.
Here are some key steps to keep in mind:
- To open a second app in Slide Over mode, hold down the icon for the second app and drag it to the right side of the screen until it turns into a small vertical window.
- To open a second app in Split View mode, press down on the top banner of the first app window and drag the window to the right, allowing the second app to slide into place.
- To switch between Split View and Slide Over modes, use the Multitasking button to toggle between the two modes.
Remember, you can always swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to access your Home Screen and open new apps. This will temporarily move your windows to the edges of the screen, allowing you to see and open the apps on your Home Screen.
Multitasking Features
You can view different windows from the same app, which is super useful for multitasking. For example, you can open Safari and then grab the Safari icon from the dock and drag it into Slide Over or Split View mode.
This allows you to have multiple instances of the same app open at the same time. You can even view two websites side by side by tapping the toolbar icon and selecting Split View.
To do this, you'll need to choose Safari again from the list of apps when prompted. This way, you can compare two websites or work on two different tasks simultaneously.
By using this feature, you can increase your productivity and get more done on your iPad.
Library to
To access the App Library, tap the icon at the far-right side of the Dock.
You can open multiple iPad apps by dragging them into Split View or Slide Over. Simply touch and hold one of the larger app icons.
To see your other apps by category, tap one of the groups of smaller app icons. This is a great way to quickly find the app you need.
