Integrating Facebook Chat with your application can seem daunting, but it's actually quite straightforward once you know the basics. You'll need to obtain a Facebook Developer account and create a Facebook App.
To get started, you'll need to register your application on the Facebook Developer Platform. This will give you a unique App ID that you'll use to authenticate your users.
The Facebook Chat API is what allows you to integrate Facebook Chat into your application. You can use it to send and receive messages, as well as manage conversations.

Preparation
Before you start integrating Facebook chat, you'll need to prepare your business's messaging system. This involves setting up a Facebook page and verifying your business's phone number.
To set up a Facebook page, you'll need to create a business account on Facebook. This will give you access to the Facebook Business Manager, which is a tool that allows you to manage your business's Facebook presence.
Facebook requires a verified phone number to prevent spam and ensure that messages are delivered correctly. You can verify your business's phone number through the Facebook Business Manager.
Once you've set up your Facebook page and verified your phone number, you'll be able to start integrating Facebook chat with your business's messaging system.
Setup
To set up Facebook chat integration, you'll need to create a Facebook page and app to obtain the necessary credentials. You can then add these credentials to your credentials file.
First, navigate to the Twilio Console and link your Facebook page to the Messenger channel. This will allow you to receive messages from Facebook. You'll need to click New Messenger Sender and log in with your Facebook account to select the Facebook page you'd like to link.
Make a note of the Facebook Messenger Page ID, which is a string of numbers that appears in the middle column. You'll need this later to create a Conversation.
To automatically create a new Conversation when a new user messages you on Facebook, you'll need to create a rule using the Address Configuration API. This will check for an existing Conversation with the sender and create a new one if necessary.

Setup Channel

To set up the Facebook Messenger channel, navigate to the Twilio Console and click on Channels > Facebook Messenger. You'll then need to log in with your Facebook account to link your Facebook page.
Click on New Messenger Sender, then select the Facebook Page you'd like to link to your Twilio account. Make a note of the Facebook Messenger Page ID, which is a string of numbers displayed in the middle column.
Once you've linked your Facebook page, you can restart your Rasa server to make the new channel endpoint available for Facebook Messenger to send messages to.
Here are the steps you'll need to take to set up the channel:
- Link your Facebook page to the Twilio Console
- Make a note of the Facebook Messenger Page ID
- Restart your Rasa server
Setting Up Autocreation
To set up autocreation, you'll need to create a rule using the Address Configuration API. This will allow you to automatically create a new Conversation when a new user messages your Facebook page.
You can use the twilio-cli, or one of our SDKs for Java, Node.js, PHP, Ruby, C#, or Python. This will help you connect your server-side integration and reply via REST API, connect chatbots or Studio Flows to handle communication in an automated fashion, use our SDK to connect via client-side mobile or web apps, or connect SMS or WhatsApp to receive Messenger chats and reply natively.

If a message comes into your Facebook page, we'll check to see if there's an existing Conversation with the sender already. If there is, we'll copy the message into the Conversation. If there isn't, and you have autocreation enabled, we'll create a new Conversation and follow any webhook rule you've added using this API.
You'll ultimately only create one Conversations autocreation rule per Facebook page. This rule will determine how you choose to handle autocreation, such as copying messages into existing Conversations or creating new ones.

Supported Response Attachments
In Facebook Messenger, you can send a variety of attachments with your responses to engage users and gather more information.

The Facebook Messenger channel supports buttons, quick replies, and elements as additional response attachments.
Buttons are structured the same as other Rasa buttons, but there's a limit to how many you can send in a message: only 3 buttons are allowed.
If you provide more than 3 buttons, Rasa will ignore them.
Facebook Messenger also supports quick replies, which allow you to present up to 13 buttons in-conversation that contain a title and optional image.
You can use quick replies to request a person's email address or phone number.
Both Quick Reply and Button titles have a character limit of 20 characters, which will be truncated if exceeded.
Elements provide a way to create a horizontally scrollable list up to 10 content elements that integrate buttons, images, and more alongside text in a single message.
You can use elements to present multiple options or information in a compact and visually appealing way.
Here's a summary of the supported response attachments:
