Gizmo5 is a free voice over IP (VoIP) service that allows users to make free calls to other Gizmo5 users, as well as calls to regular phone numbers.

One of the key features of Gizmo5 is its integration with popular instant messaging platforms like AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) and Google Talk.

With Gizmo5, users can make free calls to other Gizmo5 users, with no need for a phone or a contract. Calls to regular phone numbers are also available, albeit for a fee.

Gizmo5 also offers a range of features, including call waiting, call forwarding, and voicemail.

Mobile Support

Gizmo5 mobile phone application used the phone's carrier voice network for all calls. This allowed users to make voice calls to other Gizmo5 users, as well as to the public switched telephone network.

Calls to Gizmo5 users were free when made over WiFi. On the other hand, calls to the public switched telephone network required Gizmo5 Call Out credit.

Mobile phones that support SIP applications can place calls over WiFi or 3G. However, using 3G would incur additional costs depending on the user's data plan.

Gizmo5's service was terminated on April 4, 2011, after a message was sent to subscribers on March 4, 2011, indicating the service would be shut down.

The termination of Gizmo5's service was abrupt, with no indication of whether the service would be revived in another form or if similar functionality would be added to Google's current telephony offerings.

Here's a brief timeline of the service's termination:

Gizmo5's termination was a significant event in the world of VoIP and instant messaging, and it's worth noting that the service was not revived in any form.

If you don't request a transfer or refund by then, Gizmo5 will automatically refund your remaining call credit via the payment method you originally used to purchase the credit.

Advanced Features

Gizmo5 offered some really cool features that set it apart from other services. One of them was outbound caller line identification in the United States.

This meant that when you called someone, they could see your phone number on their caller ID, which was helpful for building trust with your contacts.
