YouTube Features on iPhone X

YouTube has rolled out high dynamic range (HDR) to users of the iPhone X, enabling improved contrast and color on HDR-enabled YouTube videos.

Videos like those from the popular HDR Channel are now able to be viewed in HDR mode on the iPhone X.

Neither the iPhone X nor the Apple TV are able to output videos in 4K, however.

YouTube is the latest company to enable HDR for the iPhone X after Netflix turned the capability on with iOS 11 in September 2017.

The new version 12.43 update also adds support for fullscreen, which you can activate using a pinch to zoom gesture when watching any video.

You’ll find that there are no YouTube videos recorded in the 19.5:9 format, so you’ll have to deal with losing the top and bottom of your video in fullscreen mode.

YouTube will now serve content in 1440p where available, rather than 1080p like on iPhone 8 Plus, making videos sharper on the iPhone X.

iPhone X doesn’t quite have enough pixels for full 1440p, but it’s close enough and certainly sharper than 1920×1080.

YouTube HDR on iPhone

YouTube HDR is now available on the iPhone X, joining Netflix in offering improved picture performance.

Videos like those from the popular HDR Channel can now be viewed in HDR mode.

Neither the iPhone X nor the Apple TV can output videos in 4K, however.

HDR for video and TVs expands the range of both contrast and color significantly, making bright parts of the image appear much brighter and colors more vivid.

1440p Support

YouTube on iPhone X brings a sharper viewing experience with 1440p support. This means you can enjoy higher quality videos, especially when watching on the iPhone X's large screen.

The 1440p resolution is a noticeable upgrade from 1080p, making videos look more detailed and vibrant. I've personally noticed the difference when watching my favorite YouTube channels.

The iPhone X can display 1440p content, although it doesn't quite have enough pixels for full 1440p, which is 2560×1440.

Fixing Video Playback Issues

If you're experiencing poor video quality on your iPhone X while watching YouTube, there are several potential causes to consider.

One possible issue is a problem with your Internet Service Provider (ISP). This could be due to outages, congestion, or other technical issues.

Another factor to consider is the number of connected users/devices on your network, as this can put a strain on your internet connection and affect video playback.

Your hardware and software can also play a role in video playback issues, so make sure your iPhone X and YouTube app are up to date.

A slow or unstable internet connection can cause video playback to buffer or become choppy. Try checking your internet connection speed to see if it's the culprit.

Problems with the video itself can also cause playback issues, so if you're experiencing issues with a specific video, try checking the video's quality settings or reporting the issue to YouTube.
