Account Setup

To set up your account, you'll need to create a username and password. This will be your unique identifier for accessing the platform.

Choose a username that's easy to remember and not easily guessable, ideally a combination of letters and numbers. For example, "johnDoe123" is a good choice.

Make sure your password is strong and secure, at least 8 characters long and including a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. A password like "P@ssw0rd!" is a good example.

Your email address will serve as your contact information for the platform, so make sure it's accurate and up-to-date. You can also add additional contact information, such as a phone number or physical address, if needed.

After creating your account, you'll be prompted to verify your email address by clicking on a link sent to your inbox. This is a security measure to ensure that you're the actual owner of the email address.

Remote Access

Remote Access is a must-have for anyone working remotely. You can manage voicemail communications and check your voicemail online through the Unified Communication Portal.

Several options are available to support work-related phone calls for remote workers, including Zoom account for audio and Jabber, which can be installed on a computer or mobile device and configured to make and receive calls on your UMKC phone number.

If you need to access your files remotely, Box Cloud Storage is a great option. It allows you to access your files remotely and even protects them with encryption.

Here are some remote access options:

  • Unified Communication Portal
  • Zoom account for audio
  • Jabber
  • Box Cloud Storage
  • Microsoft OneDrive

OneDrive is another great option for securely storing your files in a single place that's accessible from multiple platforms and devices. The N and Q drives are not ideal for file storage when working remotely, because connecting to these resources requires first connecting to the UMKC VPN service.

Accessing Files
