Incognito mode in Safari can be a convenient way to browse privately, but it's not always the best choice. Incognito mode doesn't actually make you completely anonymous online.

Safari's incognito mode only clears your browsing history and cookies when you close the private browsing window.

Why Exit Incognito Mode

You might want to exit Incognito Mode on your iPhone for several reasons. Saved logins and autofill data won't be saved in Private Browsing, so if you want your browser to remember credentials, switching to regular browsing is necessary.

Frequent revisits to the same pages can be a hassle if you're using Private Browsing, as it won't retain your history for easy access later. This can be frustrating if you need to revisit the same pages regularly.

Incognito Mode can also lead to slower performance, as it doesn't cache pages or store cookies, resulting in slower loading times compared to normal browsing.

If you regularly switch between Apple devices, Private Browsing can disrupt the syncing process of tabs across them. This can be a major inconvenience if you're used to seamless syncing.

Some parental control features don't work in Private Browsing, so you may need to turn it off for content restrictions to apply. This is especially important if you're trying to monitor your child's online activity.

How to Exit Incognito Mode on iPhone

To exit incognito mode on your iPhone, you can close all private tabs by touching and holding the "Done" button and then tapping "Close All Tabs." This will instantly remove you from private browsing.

First, make sure you're in private mode by checking if the Safari tabs button shows a pair of glasses and a fedora icon. If it does, you're in incognito mode.

To switch back to regular browsing, tap the square button with the number on it. This will take you out of private mode and back to your regular browsing history.

If you have multiple private tabs open, you can close them by swiping left on each one. After closing all private tabs, you'll be back in regular mode.

You can also remove private browsing from the tabs view by going to Settings > Safari > Advanced.

If you're using an iPhone, the process is similar. Open Safari, tap the Tabs button, and switch to another tab group or the Start Page to exit Private Browsing.

To confirm you're no longer in Incognito Mode, look for the "Turn Off" button in the center of the screen or the "Incognito mode is off" label at the top of the screen.

The process to turn off Private Browsing on iPad is nearly identical to the iPhone method. If “Private” is active, you'll need to switch to another tab group or “Start Page” to exit Private Browsing.

To do this, tap the "Turn Off" button located directly in the center of the screen. Alternatively, tap the "Incognito mode is on" label at the top of the screen to open a menu where you can select "Turn Off Incognito Mode" to return to standard browsing.

It's worth noting that the layout of the iPad screen is slightly different from the iPhone, but the steps remain the same.

Mac

On a Mac, you can close individual private browsing windows and tabs in Safari, or close all of them at once.

To close specific windows, simply select the private browsing window you want to close and click the red "X" in the top left corner.

You can also close all private browsing tabs in Safari by going to File > Close All Safari Private Browsing Tabs.

Closing all private browsing tabs will exit Incognito mode and return you to your regular browsing session.

Understanding Incognito Mode

Incognito Mode is a useful tool on your iPhone, but sometimes you may want to turn it off so your browser can remember what you looked at and store cookies and search history. Private browsing on Safari blocks websites from tracking your search behavior.

Incognito Mode is also known as Private Browsing. It stops saving your history, cookies, and temporary files during that session. This means your browsing activity won't be recorded on your device.

To turn off Incognito Mode, you need to switch back to non-private browsing. On your iPad, tap Safari and then tap the tabs button in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

If you're using your iPad in landscape mode, the tabs menu might already be open. Tap Private to switch to non-private browsing. Tap Tabs at the top of the Tabs Group list to switch back to non-private browsing.

Note: Switching back to normal tabs does not close the private tabs. If you want to close those so that whoever uses it after you can't see what you were browsing, close the tabs first before going back into regular mode.
