To send text messages from your Mac, you'll need to set up iMessage. This feature allows you to send and receive messages, as well as make voice and video calls, all from your Mac.

To get started, you'll need to have an Apple ID and be connected to a Wi-Fi network. This will enable you to access iMessage and start sending texts.

Make sure your Mac is running macOS High Sierra or later, as earlier versions of the operating system don't support iMessage.

Setting Up iMessage on a Mac

To set up iMessage on a Mac, open the Messages app by clicking its green-and-white icon in your Dock.

You can find the Messages app in the Applications folder or by searching for it.

Sign in with the same Apple ID you use on your iPhone to send iMessages. Depending on your account's security settings, you might need to enter a two-factor authentication code too.

To sync your existing text conversations with your Mac, click the iMessage tab and toggle on Enable Messages in iCloud.

If this option doesn't show up, it means that you've already enabled it somewhere else, so you're all set.

Choose which of your numbers or addresses you want your Mac's text messages to be sent from using the Start new conversations from: drop-down.

Restart the Messages app, and your existing text conversations should sync with the Mac.

Sending SMS/MMS on Mac

To send SMS and MMS messages on your Mac, your iPhone must have iOS 8.1 or later.

Your iPhone and Mac must be signed in to Messages using the same Apple ID. If you've got this set up, then you're all good to go.

Tap Text Message Forwarding on your iPhone to enable it. If you don't see it, make sure you're signed in to Messages using the same Apple ID on both devices.

Enable your Mac in the list of devices, and on your Mac, open the Messages app. A six-digit activation code will appear.

Enter this code on your iPhone, then tap Allow.

Alternative Options

If you're looking for alternative options to send text messages from your Mac, you have a few choices. You can use a third-party messaging app like Messages or iMessage, which allows you to send texts to other Mac users and even non-Mac users with an Apple device.

One option is to use a service like Google Voice or Skype, which offers free or low-cost texting plans. These services often have more features and better international coverage than traditional SMS.

For a more integrated experience, you can use a messaging app like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, which can be accessed from your Mac's browser or downloaded as a desktop app.
