European Network Upgrades

Sipartech's new submarine cable system, managed by Medloop France, connects Barcelona, Spain, to Marseille, France, and Genoa, Italy. This expansion enhances Sipartech's ability to provide high-capacity connectivity across Europe, meeting the growing demands of cloud providers, hyperscalers, data centers, and enterprises.

The Medloop cable provides a diverse path to the traditional outbound route from Spain to the rest of Europe, supporting the region's digital growth and ensuring network service resiliency. This is particularly important in the Mediterranean, where Barcelona is a crucial interconnection site linking major data centers and corporate hubs.

Sipartech's network utilizes Ciena's 6500 Packet-Optical Platform and WaveLogic 5 Extreme for maximum bandwidth efficiency and flexibility. With the 6500's colorless, directionless, and contentionless (CDC) photonic architecture, Sipartech gains the ability to grow capacity and rebalance the network according to customer needs.

Infinera's 600G transmission technology is also being used to upgrade Geant's pan-European research network. This will mark the most significant refresh of the company's network in a decade, providing high-speed services to its customers using efficient, high-capacity 600G per wavelength transmission.

Geant's scalable network is designed to enable the scaling of capacity to multiple terabits seamlessly, meeting rapidly growing bandwidth demand. Leveraging advanced features from the GX G30 and FlexILS, GÉANT can provide a high level of security, service reliability, and disaster recovery.
