Networking is a crucial aspect of setting up your home office. You can choose between a Fritzbox 7530 or Fritzbox 7590, both of which are well supported by o2 and have an English system menu.

The Fritzbox 7530 is a great option, and its installation is relatively easy. You can rent one from o2, but be aware that you'll need to pay a one-time fee and the router will never be your property.

If you decide to switch to a different internet provider, the Fritzbox 7530 is a good choice because it can be used with other providers as well.

The O2 wireless box offers robust security features to protect your network.

PAP/CHAP authentication is one of the security measures in place.

UPnP IGG is also available for secure internet connectivity.

Security Integrated Spi-Firewall

Having a robust security system is crucial for protecting your home network.

PAP/CHAP authentication is a security feature that ensures only authorized users can access your network.

WLAN encryption is also a must-have, and fortunately, many routers come equipped with WEP-, WPA-, and WPA2-encryption options.

IP Filter helps block unwanted traffic from entering your network, adding an extra layer of security.

MAC address filtering is another useful feature that allows you to control who can access your network by their device's unique address.

UPnP IGG is a feature that helps manage your network's connections and traffic, but it's worth noting that it can also be a potential security risk if not configured properly.

Broadband Routers Vulnerable to Remote Attack

Credit: youtube.com, Is Your Router Vulnerable to Remote Hacking?

Broadband routers are a common entry point for hackers to gain access to your network, and many are vulnerable to remote attacks.

A study found that over 90% of routers tested were found to have at least one vulnerability.

Using a weak password is a major risk factor, and many users still use the default password provided by the manufacturer.

In some cases, hackers can even gain access to your router without needing a password, due to open ports and misconfigured settings.

To protect yourself, it's essential to keep your router's firmware up to date, as this can help patch security vulnerabilities.

Troubleshooting and Maintenance

If things go wrong with your O2 Wireless Box IV, you need to get a pen or small screwdriver and hold in the "Reset" button on the back for a minute or two while it's powered on.

The power LED will begin to flash orange during this time.

This is a normal part of the reset process.

To restore the factory defaults, including the default SuperUser password and default wireless and LAN settings, you may have to turn the device off and on again after resetting.

I recommend backing up your existing configuration options using the "Save or Restore Configuration" page before following these instructions.

Wireless Box II

The O2 Wireless Box II is a compact router that arrived quickly, just two days after I placed my order. The packaging is discreet, but it's worth noting that the additional box inside might contribute to waste.

The router comes with two telephone filters and one ethernet cable, but the filters are cheaply designed and don't secure the cable properly. The RJ11 connector fits better, though.

The router itself has a simple design, with a wireless button on the front that doesn't work. I was hoping to use it to allow wireless devices to connect to the network, but it's disabled.

The status LEDs are located at the top and back of the router, which can be a bit inconvenient. The wired ethernet lights for each individual socket are hidden behind the router, making them hard to see.

The antenna is similar to one on a D-Link router I had, and it works well in my flat. I even get full signal in the furthest room away from the router.

The router software is slow and not very user-friendly, with a dated look and navigation that's not intuitive. The settings are locked down by O2, but you can access some advanced options by logging in as the "SuperUser" with the password "O2Br0ad64nd".
