NBC Europe has undergone significant changes since its inception. The company was established in 2002 as a joint venture between NBCUniversal and several European media companies.

In the early 2000s, NBC Europe launched its first channels, including CNBC Europe and Euronews. CNBC Europe was the first 24-hour business news channel in Europe.

NBC Europe's channels have expanded over the years, with the launch of several new networks. One of these was Style Network, a fashion and lifestyle channel that was introduced in 2003.

Today, NBC Europe operates a range of channels, including CNBC Europe, Euronews, and Style Network, among others.

History of NBC Europe

NBC Europe was a Pan-European cable network that was relaunched in 1993 as NBC Super Channel after General Electric acquired Super Channel.

The channel was renamed NBC Europe in 1996, but was often referred to on-air as simply "NBC". This was likely due to its extensive coverage of NBC News programs, including Dateline NBC, Meet the Press, and NBC Nightly News, which were broadcast simultaneously with the initial U.S. telecast.

Most of NBC Europe's prime time programming was produced in Europe due to rights restrictions associated with U.S. prime time shows. However, the channel's weekday late-night schedule featured The Tonight Show, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and Later, which was the basis for its slogan "Where the Stars Come Out at Night".

NBC Europe was broadcast across Europe and was picked up by various European cable television networks. The channel's branding history dates back to Music Box in 1984, which was later renamed Super Channel in 1987, and then NBC Super Channel in 1993.

The channel's availability varied across different regions, with NBC programming being available in Mexico through free-to-air affiliates near the Mexico-United States border.

NBC Europe carried virtually no prime time entertainment programmes shown in the United States, due to the fin-syn rules and high costs of buying rights for each country.

The channel was split into GIGA and later replaced by the new channel Das Vierte in 2005.

Das Vierte continued broadcasting with its licence on cable, satellite, IPTV and digital cable until it was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2012.

NBC Europe was replaced by Disney Channel Germany in 2014, which switched from pay television to free-to-air.
