Mullvad VPN has a strong reputation for its no-logs policy, which means that your online activities are not recorded or stored. This is a major selling point for users who value their online anonymity.
The Mullvad app for iOS is easy to download and install, and it's available from the App Store. Once you've installed the app, you can start using it right away, without needing to create an account or provide any personal details.
Mullvad VPN offers a range of features that make it a great choice for iOS users, including strong encryption and a large network of servers.
Getting Started
Getting started with Mullvad iOS is a breeze. If you log in with the wrong account number, tap on the settings icon (gear) in the top right corner and tap on Account > Log out.
First, make sure you're using the correct account number to avoid any hassle. Logging in with the wrong account number can be easily resolved by following the above steps.
Quick Start Guide

Logging in with the wrong account number is a common mistake, but don't worry, it's easily fixed. Just tap on the settings icon (gear) in the top right corner.
If you're having trouble logging in, you can also log out and start again. To do this, tap on Account > Log out.
Installation Requirements
To use the Mullvad VPN app, you'll need an iOS device running iOS 15 or a newer version. This is because older versions of the app, like 2022.2, are no longer compatible with iOS 12.
The Mullvad VPN app is designed to work with the latest iOS versions, so make sure your device is up to date to avoid any issues.
VPN Features
Mullvad iOS offers a robust set of features that enhance your online security and anonymity.
The VPN uses strong encryption protocols, including IKEv2 and WireGuard, to protect your internet traffic.
With Mullvad, you can enjoy fast and stable connections on your iOS device, thanks to its optimized network infrastructure.
The app also features a kill switch that automatically disconnects your internet access if the VPN connection drops, ensuring your data remains secure.
Mullvad's no-logs policy means your online activities are never recorded or stored, giving you complete peace of mind.
Server IP Override
Server IP override can be a lifesaver if you're in a country where our VPN servers are blocked. This feature allows you to connect to a server using a manually entered IP address.
This is especially useful in restrictive countries where our VPN servers are blocked. It may be provided by Mullvad Support if deemed necessary.
You can find the email address to contact Mullvad Support at the bottom of this website. It's a good idea to have this information handy if you need to use this feature.
Server IP override has no impact on services and websites that block our server exit IPs, as it only changes the entry IP.
Benefits of Using a VPN
Using a VPN can be a game-changer for your online security and anonymity.
Mullvad VPN is a great example of how a VPN can protect your identity, as it doesn't require a username or password to use. Instead, it generates a randomly generated 16-digit account number when you sign up.
This unique approach to VPN services means you can sign up for Mullvad via the Tor anonymizing protocol, adding an extra layer of security to your online activities.
The company's commitment to anonymity is impressive, as it never needs to know your name, email address, or other personal information. You can even pay for its service in cash, mailed to a post-office box in Gothenburg, Sweden.
A three-hour trial period is available before committing to Mullvad's service, which costs 5 euros, or about $5.50, per month. This is a relatively modest price for a VPN service, especially considering it's available for as low as $65 per year.
Connection and Settings
To connect to Mullvad VPN, tap the toggle switch next to the profile name. This will establish a secure connection.
You can also verify your connection with our Connection check. This is a great way to ensure you're securely connected.
If you're disconnected, the top bar of the app will be red and "Unsecure connection" will be displayed on the connection screen.
To change your DNS settings, go to the VPN settings section. Here, you can enable options to use our filtered DNS server, which can prevent certain content from loading in your web browser and other apps.
The filter lists we use are published at our GitHub, so you can check them out if you have any issues loading websites.
To connect and disconnect using the WireGuard app, simply tap the toggle button next to the location server you wish to use.
To check your connection status, visit our Connection check.

Don't forget to check your subscription status and ensure you have an active Mullvad subscription. If you're still having issues, try reinstalling the app.
If you're experiencing issues with DNS leaks, go to the Mullvad app settings and check that DNS leak protection is enabled. This can be found under the "Advanced" settings.

Security and Protection
Mullvad iOS prioritizes security and protection through its robust encryption methods, using AES-256-CBC to safeguard user data.
Mullvad's no-logs policy ensures that user activity is not stored or monitored, providing complete anonymity.
This approach allows users to browse the internet without worrying about their online activities being tracked or recorded.
The app also features a kill switch, which instantly disconnects the internet connection if the VPN is lost, preventing any potential data leaks.
Kill Switch
The Kill Switch is a feature available in OpenVPN Connect 3.3.0 and newer.
To enable the Kill Switch, you first need to disconnect from the VPN if it is connected. This is a crucial step to ensure that the Kill Switch can function properly.
Here's a step-by-step guide to enable the Kill Switch:
- To enable the Kill Switch, first disconnect from the VPN if it is connected.
- Tap on the pen icon on the right side of the server configuration in the main view of the app.
- Make sure that Enable Kill Switch is checked.
- Tap on Save in the top right corner.
- Connect to the VPN, which may take a longer time than without the Kill Switch.
With the Kill Switch enabled, your VPN will connect automatically even after a device reboot, and almost no traffic will be allowed until a VPN connection is established.
Vulnerabilities
To ensure your VPN connection is secure, it's essential to be aware of some potential vulnerabilities.
Old connections can bypass the VPN tunnel if they were established before you connected to Mullvad.
Enabling Airplane mode, turning off Wi-Fi if it's on, and then disabling Airplane Mode can resolve this issue.
Some apps on your device can be designed to circumvent the VPN tunnel by routing traffic over cellular or mobile data.
Disabling cellular or mobile data when using Wi-Fi can prevent this from happening.
