You can also download separately Teams, SharePoint, Microsoft Lens, the Office Remote, and Microsoft Office 365 apps. Microsoft has acquired several companies to enhance its mobile services, including Acompli, which was rebranded as Outlook Mobile, and Sunrise Calendar, which was integrated into Outlook Mobile.

Microsoft Office Mobile is a suite of applications that comes bundled with the Windows Phone and has separately downloadable versions for iOS and Android. It was originally launched in 1998 with Windows CE v1.0.

The core applications of Microsoft Office Mobile are Microsoft Word Mobile, Microsoft Excel Mobile, Microsoft PowerPoint Mobile, and Microsoft OneNote Mobile. Office Mobile also offers separately downloadable versions of Teams, SharePoint, Microsoft Lens, Office Remote, and Microsoft Office 365 apps.

Microsoft acquired Acompli in 2014, a company that developed an email and calendar application for Android and iOS, which was rebranded as Outlook Mobile. In 2015, Microsoft announced that it would discontinue Sunrise Calendar, but it's still available for download.

Office Lens is getting a new feature that allows users to share short videos in Teams chats. It will also be able to read and transcribe handwritten text, first rolling out to the Office Lens app and eventually to the Office mobile app. The app is also getting a new name, Microsoft Lens.

Improving Text Input

Improving text input is a game-changer for productivity. Microsoft Search within Teams and Office mobile will soon support natural language queries in English in the United States.

You'll be able to tap a microphone icon to type phrases within a search box, making it easier to find what you need. This feature is a huge time-saver, especially when you're on-the-go.

Cortana will also be able to search through messages, chats, meetings, people, files, and more, giving you access to a wealth of information at your fingertips.

Communication and Collaboration

Communication and Collaboration is at the heart of Microsoft mobile services. Microsoft Teams is a great example of this, allowing users to chat, meet, and share files in one place.

Microsoft Teams has a mobile app that lets users stay connected on-the-go, with features like file sharing and real-time messaging. This makes it easy to collaborate with colleagues or friends from anywhere.

With Microsoft Teams, users can also make video calls and participate in online meetings, making remote work a breeze. This is especially useful for teams that need to collaborate on projects in different locations.

Microsoft's mobile services also include the Microsoft Office suite, which can be accessed from anywhere on a mobile device. This means users can create and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations on-the-go.

Groove Music was a great way to stream your favorite tunes on Windows Phone, allowing you to download content you'd bought via the Xbox Music Pass and stream it to your PC.

The service was initially exclusive to Windows and Windows Phone, but it later expanded to iTunes and Google Play in 2013. However, the Windows Phone app had more features than its counterparts.

In 2015, Microsoft enabled OneDrive integration, letting you stream songs stored on OneDrive via Groove Music. This feature only works if your files are in a OneDrive folder named "Music", and it currently supports MP3, M4A (AAC), and WMA files.

Xbox Live on Windows Phone was a game-changer, enabling users to edit their avatars, communicate with friends, and host games installed on their device.

These features were later moved to their own separate applications.

In 2015, Microsoft enabled OneDrive integration, allowing users to stream songs they'd stored on OneDrive via Groove Music.

To use this feature, users need to store their songs in a OneDrive folder named "Music".

Xbox

Xbox has a long history of integration with Microsoft's mobile operating systems. Windows Phone 7 was the first mobile operating system to have Xbox Live integration.

You can access Xbox Live on Windows Phone by going to the Games Hub, which was included in the operating system's launch with Windows Phone 7.5. This allows users to edit their avatars and communicate with friends from their Xbox Live friends list.

Xbox Live on Windows Phone also hosts the games installed on the device, making it easy to access and play your favorite games on the go.

Microsoft's mobile services offer a range of system and settings that can enhance your mobile experience.

You can access the settings menu on your Windows phone by swiping down from the top of the screen and tapping the settings icon. This will give you access to a range of options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and location services.

To customize your notification settings, go to the settings menu and select "Notifications". From here, you can choose which apps you want to receive notifications from and how you want to be notified.

Change Device Access Settings

Changing device access settings is a straightforward process that can be done through the Microsoft 365 portal.

To start, click Admin > Exchange > Mobile > Mobile device access.

You can then choose to edit the Exchange ActiveSync access settings, which allows you to turn off or suspend mobile access for devices using Exchange ActiveSync.

In the Exchange ActiveSync access settings dialog box, you can select one of the following options: quarantine or set up rules for specific devices on the Mobile device access page.

Here are the steps to edit Exchange ActiveSync access settings in a concise format:

  1. Click Admin > Exchange > Mobile > Mobile device access.
  2. Under Exchange ActiveSync Access Settings, click Edit.

The Microsoft Software Updater is a Windows utility that has been around since 2007, originally launched as Nokia Software Updater.

It allows customers to update and recover their mobile device firmware from any internet-enabled access point, supporting devices from Nokia's S40, S60, and Lumia series.

The service was first launched in beta in 2006, and its beta phase ended on August 25, 2011.

Nokia Software Updater 3.0.495 was released in 2011, and after Microsoft's acquisition of Nokia, the utility was renamed to Microsoft Software Updater.

This service can be used to restore the firmware on a "bricked" phone, which previously required a visit to a local Nokia Care customer service center.

The Nokia Store was the application store for the Nokia Asha and X platforms, where customers could download mobile games, applications, videos, images, and ringtones.

It was previously known as the Ovi Store, but the name was changed when Nokia rebranded its services.

Microsoft officially closed down the Nokia Store on 31 March 2015, encouraging developers to migrate their apps to the Opera Mobile Store instead.

New applications were no longer accepted to the Nokia Store after 18 February 2015, and the Nokia Developer site was also officially retired on the same day.

The Nokia Store listed Symbian and MeeGo applications, although developers could no longer launch or update them.

Microsoft encouraged developers to go to MSDN, TechNet, and Windows Developer sites to develop applications for Windows Phone and Windows.

Cortana can search for music and tell jokes, show the latest headlines, predict sports events, and even enable "quiet hours" to help you stay focused. It also uses Foursquare to show relevant local data.

One of the coolest features of Cortana is its ability to learn your speech patterns, including your grammar, vocal nuances, and dialect. This means it gets better at understanding you over time.

Remote access is a crucial aspect of Microsoft mobile services, allowing users to access their Exchange data from their mobile devices. By default, mobile access is allowed for Exchange ActiveSync.

If you want to turn off or suspend mobile access, you can do so by going to the Microsoft 365 portal and clicking on Admin > Exchange > Mobile > Mobile device access. From there, you can edit the Exchange ActiveSync Access Settings and choose to quarantine or set up rules for specific devices.

You can also suspend or turn off mobile access for specific devices, giving you more control over who can access your Exchange data. This is especially useful if you need to troubleshoot issues with a particular device.

To turn mobile access back on, simply edit the Exchange ActiveSync Access Settings and choose to allow access again.
