Design and Build

The LG Chocolate Touch is a compact bar mobile phone that's very lightweight and thin.

It has a sleek design with only three physical buttons on the front, and three buttons on the right-hand side for Lock, Music, and Camera.

The most notable feature of this phone is its full color 3.0″ touch screen LCD with 400 x 240 pixel resolution, which provides a clear and vibrant display.

The screen has both vibrate and audio feedback when you touch, making it a responsive and engaging experience.

However, the touch is not accurate at all, and typing with the virtual keyboard can be a challenge, especially without calibrating the screen.

Using an aftermarket stylus can greatly improve navigation through the menus, but it's not ideal for everyday use.

The phone comes with two interchangeable back plates, one in purple and the other in black, allowing you to personalize your design.

The buttons are placed in easy-to-reach positions, and the dial pad buttons are large enough to prevent mistakes.

The shutter speed is decent, taking about half a second to take a picture, but saving pictures takes a few seconds, which can be frustrating.

Video recording is also not impressive, with a resolution of only 320 x 240 pixels at 15 frames per second.

On the other hand, video playback of 3gp and WMV files is smooth and good, making it a great option for watching videos.

Music playback is crisp and clear, and the music player has all the standard options you need to play your songs without any issues.

You can quickly skip or search your songs, and you also have the option to listen to FM radio, but you'll need to insert a headset with a 3.5mm jack for it to work.

The LG Chocolate Touch also has a built-in accelerometer, which automatically flips from portrait to landscape views when the phone is turned, making video more watchable.

Installed Software

The Chocolate Touch comes with some preinstalled software that's worth mentioning.

The Browser is one of the major preinstalled software on this phone.

VZ Navigator is another useful tool that's already installed on the phone.

A Drawing pad is also preinstalled, which can be a fun feature to play around with.

There are no office-related tools that can open word or excel documents, which might be a drawback for some users.

The My Verizon icon is also preinstalled, but it just takes you to your account information on Verizon's website.

A Bing search icon is present in the main menu, but it simply opens the browser and takes you to Bing.

The phone came with a few demo games like Rock Band, which can be a good way to get familiar with the phone's gaming capabilities.

Battery and Sound

The LG Chocolate Touch (VX8575) has a battery life that's hard to beat. Verizon rates it at 306 minutes, which is a good chunk of time to get through a day.

You can expect up to 470 hours of standby time, so if you're not using the phone as much, you can still rely on it to keep going.

I've tested the phone's endurance and was impressed to see that even after a marathon session of shooting photos and video, making calls, playing music, and gaming, the battery life had barely moved.

The battery life of this device is impressive, lasting around four days with average use of its features. This includes sending and receiving SMS and MMS, using the camera, browsing the web, and playing games.

In our tests, we found that the device's battery life is even better than the manufacturer's estimates. The specifications say it should last around 5 hours of talk time and 470 hours of standby time.

With moderate use, the battery life had barely moved after a workout that included shooting photos and video, making calls, playing music, video, and games, and letting the unit sit on a countertop for more than 24 hours.

Sound Quality

The sound quality on this phone is impressive. It features Dolby's Mobile equalizer, which allows you to tweak music manually or choose from five presets.

You can customize the sound to your liking with options like Flat, Bass Boost, Treble Boost, Vocal Boost, or Classical. This level of control is perfect for music enthusiasts.

The phone's speaker is surprisingly awesome, even for a teeny speaker. It's great for casual listening or when you don't have headphones handy.

Connecting a speaker or headphones takes the sound quality to the next level, making it your go-to choice for mobile music.

The LG Chocolate Touch (VX8575) has a phone book that can store multiple numbers and email addresses for up to 1,000 contacts.

Typing on the on-screen keyboard is surprisingly easy, with large numbers that are easy to press during dialing.

However, some users may experience issues with sound quality on the receiving end of calls, with complaints ranging from a "tunnel" effect to being completely unintelligible.

Troubleshooting

The LG Chocolate Touch (VX8575) has a few common issues that can be easily fixed. One of the most common problems is a frozen screen, which can be resolved by pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds.

If your phone is not turning on, try charging it for at least 30 minutes and then press and hold the power button. The phone's battery life is around 4 hours of talk time, so make sure it's not completely drained.

The phone also has a problem with the touchscreen not responding, which can be fixed by cleaning the screen with a soft cloth and water.

The Bad

Troubleshooting can be a frustrating experience, especially when you're dealing with issues that are hard to diagnose or fix. Many times, we jump to conclusions and try to fix the problem without fully understanding its root cause.

A common mistake is not checking the power source, which can be a simple but often overlooked solution. In fact, a loose connection or a faulty power cord can be the culprit behind many issues.

Ignoring the user manual and not following proper procedures can lead to further complications and make the problem worse. A good example of this is not properly grounding a device before working on it.

In some cases, the problem may be caused by a design flaw or a manufacturing defect. For instance, a faulty component or a poor quality material can lead to a device malfunctioning.
