Instagram's algorithm takes into account how users interact with Reels, such as likes, comments, and shares.

To boost your Reels' visibility, focus on creating engaging content that resonates with your audience. This will increase the chances of your Reels being liked by your friends and others.

The number of likes on a Reel is not the only factor that determines its popularity. Engagement metrics, such as comments and shares, also play a significant role in the algorithm's decision-making process.

Having a strong engagement strategy in place can help increase the visibility of your Reels and attract more likes from your friends and followers.

How Instagram Shows Your Friends

Instagram is showing your friends which Reels you've liked. This feature is intended to encourage more engagement on Instagram Reels.

To see which Reels your friends have liked, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Reels Tab.
  2. In the top right corner, you’ll see an icon showing some of your friends. Tap on it.
  3. This will take you to a dedicated feed showcasing Reels that your friends have liked or added a note to.
  4. You can see which friends have liked each Reel and tap on their profiles to start a conversation directly.

You might see some of your friends' profile photos with little hearts in the corner of their images in the Reels tab. This is a sign that they've liked the Reel.

Instagram is making it easier to see what your friends have liked on the platform. Now, the top-right corner of the Reels tab displays a “Friends” section featuring their profile photos and pink hearts.

This feature shows you Reels your friends have recently liked. You can also tap their profile photo on that Reel to send a reaction to them via direct messages. Instagram is trying to make it easier to connect with friends over content.

Adam Mosseri, Instagram Head, says they want Instagram to be a place where you connect over content with friends. This is a change from the "Following" feed, which got messy real quick.

You can now find your friends' liked Reels in one place. This is a change from the past, when you could only see if a friend liked a post or Reel if you happened to stumble upon it.

Instagram is trying to make it a more participatory and social experience. They're giving users more features to engage with their friends' content.

The "Friends" section is not the only new feature. Instagram is now letting you upload Reels that are up to three minutes long. This is a change from the previous 90-second limit.
