The Mate 30 Pro boasts superior post-processing and noise reduction in both video and photos thanks to the new Kirin 990 chipset. This means you'll get consistently better results, regardless of which lens you're using.

Edge detection in portrait shots has been particularly impressive, even in challenging light and with moving backgrounds. The differences in performance between the main and ultrawide cameras are negligible, unless you're shooting in extreme low light.

The ultrawide camera is that good, and it's joined by a 3X 8MP telephoto camera for added versatility. The presence of 3X optical zoom means you're no longer left with an area of weaker digital zoom performance around 3-4.9X.

7680fps video is overkill, but 960fps footage has seen a noticeable improvement in quality. I'm actually enjoying the extra detail and smoothness it provides.

The software build I'm using doesn't have the front-facing night mode feature that was recently patched into the P30 Pro. However, it's likely this will arrive in a future patch before the Chinese street date.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro's performance is seriously impressive. It's the fastest software ever from Huawei, and that's a big deal.

The phone's auto-rotation feature is a game-changer. It uses both the gyro and face detection array to figure out which way you're looking at the phone, and it works seamlessly.

Tilt your head 90 degrees in either direction and your apps will follow you, no problem. It's technically impressive and doesn't seem to affect the battery life.

Air gestures are also a feature on the Mate 30 Pro, similar to what we're expecting to see on other phones. You can wave up or down to scroll through lists, or close your palm to take a screenshot.

The screenshot feature works well enough, but the page-scroll gesture is a bit finicky and not very useful. I've found myself struggling to get it to work as intended.

Battery life is another area where the Mate 30 Pro shines. I've been using it for a while now, and I'm confident saying it matches the P30 Pro's battery life on EMUI 10. This phone will easily last you a day, no matter what you're doing.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro was originally only available in China, but it's now available in the UK and Australia.
