To start OneDrive, you'll need to sign up for a Microsoft account if you don't already have one. This is because OneDrive is a Microsoft service.

You can sign up for a Microsoft account on the Microsoft website, and it's free. You'll need to provide some basic information like your name, email address, and password.

Once you have a Microsoft account, you can download and install the OneDrive app on your device. This will give you access to your OneDrive files from anywhere.

Setup and Installation

To set up OneDrive on your Windows 10 device, you can start by checking if the client is already installed. If you don't find OneDrive on the Start menu, you can download the offline installer from Microsoft and double-click the file to install it.

You can also try right-clicking the cloud icon from the notification area and selecting the Sign in button if the setup process doesn't appear. Click the Next button to begin the setup process.

OneDrive can back up your system profile folders, but this might not be possible with the free version of the service if you don't have enough space. You can always access the backup settings from the Sync and backup tab in the OneDrive settings.

Here are the steps to follow if you're setting up OneDrive manually:

  • Click the Next button.
  • Clear the Desktop, Documents, and Pictures selections if you don't want to back up these folders.

To install OneDrive for Business, navigate to the OneDrive for Business page and select Download. Save and run the OneDriveSetup.exe application when prompted.

If you're installing the OneDrive app, you can navigate to the Download OneDrive page and select Download OneDrive for Windows. Once the file is downloaded, open it and follow the instructions to install OneDrive.

OneDrive connects seamlessly with File Explorer to make uploading files super easy. To upload documents and other files to OneDrive on Windows 10, use the steps: Snap the OneDrive folder to the left side (Windows key + left arrow), open another instance of File Explorer (Windows key + E), navigate to the folder with the content you want to upload, snap the folder with the local files to the right side (Windows key + right arrow), and drag and drop each file and folder you want to upload to the OneDrive folder (left).

The files and folder in the OneDrive location will automatically sync to the cloud. If you have many files, 5GB of storage may not be enough with the free account.

To share files and folders, open the File Explorer and select your OneDrive folder, then right-click the file you wish to share and select Share. You can enter the recipient's email address and click Send, or use one of the alternative methods: Generate a shareable link via Copy link, email the shareable link via Outlook, or share through another application via More apps.

Uploading files to OneDrive is a breeze, especially when you know the tricks. You can snap the OneDrive folder to the left side of your screen using the Windows key + left arrow.

To start, make sure you have another instance of File Explorer open by pressing the Windows key + E. This will give you a clear view of both your local files and the OneDrive folder. Navigate to the folder containing the files you want to upload.

Once you have both File Explorer windows open, snap the folder with your local files to the right side of the screen using the Windows key + right arrow. Now, you can drag and drop each file and folder you want to upload to the OneDrive folder on the left.

The files and folders will automatically sync to the cloud once you've completed the upload process. This means you can access your files from any device with an internet connection.

If you have a lot of files to upload, you might want to consider upgrading to a paid Microsoft 365 plan. This will give you 1,000GB of OneDrive storage and access to additional features like Microsoft Office apps and Microsoft Teams.
