Understanding Sharing
Family Sharing is a convenient way to share content across Apple services, including Apple Music, for only $17 per month.
This means account administrators can host up to six Apple Music users under one family subscription, making it easy to share music with your loved ones.
Everyone under Family Sharing uses their own Apple ID, so they get their own preferences and recommendations.
With purchase sharing enabled, the entire family can swap movies, shows, books, and music, as long as the purchasing user approves sharing for the other group members.
This feature is super useful, especially for families with kids, as it allows them to share music and other content while still having their own individual accounts.
Adding Family Members
To add family members to your Apple Music subscription, you'll need to set up Family Sharing on your device. This will allow you to invite them to join your family group.
First, open the Apple Music app and tap your profile icon in the top-right corner to open the account settings. From there, tap Manage Family to open your Apple ID settings page.
To add a family member, locate and tap Family Sharing, then tap Add Member. Enter the email address linked to the Apple ID of the person and send an invite.
You can add up to 5 family members to your Apple Music subscription. Each member will get a personal music library and personalized music recommendations based on their tastes.
The family plan costs $14.99 per month, making it a cheaper alternative to individual plans.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Sharing Apple Music with your family can be a bit tricky, but don't worry, I've got you covered. Sometimes you may encounter issues when sharing Apple Music with your family.
If you're having trouble setting up Family Sharing, you might need to make sure everyone has the latest version of iOS. This will ensure that you can share music seamlessly.
One common problem is that family members may not be able to access each other's libraries. This is usually due to a setting that needs to be enabled, so make sure to check the Family Sharing settings on your iPhone.
Subscription and Plan
To share Apple Music with your family on your iPhone, you'll want to upgrade to a family plan. This costs $14.99 per month, which is more cost-effective than purchasing individual subscriptions for each family member.
Upgrading to a family plan is a breeze, and you don't need to cancel your existing subscription first. To do so, go to the Apple Music app on your iPhone, click on your profile icon, and select Subscriptions. You'll see Individual (Apple Music) listed, so opt for Family (1 Month) instead.
Alternatively, you can upgrade on your Mac by launching the Mac App Store, selecting your name at the bottom left, and clicking View Information at the top right. From there, navigate to Subscriptions and choose Manage, then click on Apple Music Subscription and opt for Family (1 month).
