Disconnect Text Messages from Mac in Simple Steps

Disconnecting text messages from your Mac can be a bit tricky, but don't worry, I've got you covered. You can easily disconnect text messages from your Mac by going to System Preferences, then clicking on Messages.

To access System Preferences, click on the Apple logo in the top left corner of your screen and select System Preferences. This will open up a new window with various options, including Messages.

From the Messages window, click on the Accounts tab and select your iMessage account from the left-hand menu. This will display all the devices connected to your iMessage account, including your Mac.

To disconnect text messages from your Mac, simply click on the minus button next to your Mac's name and confirm that you want to remove it from the list.

Disable iMessage

Disabling iMessage on your Mac is a straightforward process. You can completely turn it off or just hide notifications.

If you want to completely turn off iMessage, you'll need to sign out of your account. To do this, open the Messages app, click Messages, then Preferences. Click the iMessage tab and select Sign Out. You'll be prompted to confirm, so click Sign Out again.

You can also disable iMessage by following these steps:

  1. Open the Messages app on your Mac.
  2. Go to the iMessage menu in Messages preferences.
  3. Click Sign Out, then confirm that you want to sign out.

Alternatively, you can disable iMessage by using the two-finger click on a conversation and selecting Hide Alerts from the context menu.

Either way, signing out of iMessage will stop new messages from coming to your Mac until you sign in to your account again.

Managing Message Notifications

To completely turn off Messages alerts on your MacBook, you can use a trick that disables normal messages as well as iMessage on Mac.

You won't receive any notifications from the Messages app now, so you should regularly check the Messages app to not miss any important alerts on the Mac.

Disabling iMessage on Mac is a good option if you don't need it. Once you disable iMessage on Mac, you will continue to receive new messages on your iPhone and iPad.

To disable iMessage on Mac, open the Messages app and go to the iMessage menu in Messages preferences.

Block Contacts

You can block contacts to completely disconnect text messages from your Mac. The Messages app has a Blocked tab where you can add contacts.

To access the Blocked tab, you'll need to follow the steps to block a contact. This will prevent you from receiving messages or calls from the selected contacts on both your Mac and iPhone.

Move to the Blocked tab to find the contacts you've blocked. This tab is where you'll see all the contacts you've added to the block list.

iMessage Account Management

To manage your iMessage account on your Mac, you can sign out of iMessage, which will also sign you out of your Apple ID. This is a straightforward process that can be completed in a few steps.

To sign out of iMessage, open the Messages app and click Messages in the upper menu bar. Select Preferences, then click the iMessage tab and select Sign Out. You will be prompted to confirm that you want to sign out, so click Sign Out again to complete the process.

Signing out of iMessage will prevent you from receiving any further messages on your Mac until you sign in to your account again. If you have a MacBook Air 13″, you can follow the same steps as above to sign out of iMessage.

If you only want to silence notifications on your Mac, you can do so by opening the Apple menu and selecting System Preferences. Then, click the Notifications & Focus icon and select Messages from the list of apps on the left side. Turn off Allow Notifications to silence iMessage notifications on your Mac.

Alternatively, you can also silence iMessage notifications by opening the Messages app and clicking Messages in the upper menu bar. Select Preferences, then click the iMessage tab and select Settings. Select Sign Out, then confirm that you want to sign out.
