To insert a text box in Google Docs, you can use the "Drawing" tool. This tool allows you to create shapes and lines, but you can also use it to create a text box by typing text within a shape.

You can customize the text box by changing its color, font, and size. For example, you can change the text box color to match your document's theme or highlight important information.

A text box can be placed anywhere on the page, and you can resize it to fit your needs. You can also add multiple text boxes to a single page, making it easy to organize your content.

To insert a text box in Google Docs, you need to click on the icon that looks like a square with a T in it in the drawing dialogue.

This icon is the "Text box" tool that will allow you to add a text box to your document.

You can add a text box to your Google Doc using two main methods: the draw function or the table function.

The drawing option is one of the most popular ways to add a text box in Google Docs. You can choose “Insert” on the menu bar at the top of your Google Doc, choose “Drawing,” and then “New.”

To create a text box using the drawing tool, place your cursor where you want the text box, select Insert > Drawing in the menu, and pick New. You can then choose Text box in the toolbar and drag your cursor to draw the box in the size you want.

You can resize the text box later if needed, and add your text inside the box. You'll then see a floating toolbar display beneath it, which allows you to wrap other text around it or keep it inline, as well as rotate or resize the box.

The advantage to this method is that you're inserting an actual text box that you can customize and move freely. However, you must open the Drawing tool to make edits to the text and the box.

You can also use a Shape like a callout or oval and enter the text inside of it, giving you more flexibility in creating your text box.

To make changes to the text, select Edit in the floating toolbar, which reopens the Drawing tool for you to make and save the adjustments.

Formatting Options

You can format your text box in Google Docs by choosing a formatting command and applying it to the text box. The formatting command toolbar includes standard styles like bold, italics, and underline options.

To add a background color to your text box, click the fill icon and select your color. Most of the style functions inside the text box are consistent with the same ones used on text in other places throughout the Google Doc.

You can change the font and appearance of the text within the text box via the font options in the menu bar. The border weight refers to the thickness of your border, and you have several options for border dash including different combinations of dots and dashes.

To align text left, right or center, and place it at the top, middle or bottom of the text box, click on the text box and choose your desired alignment. You can also alter the way the document text flows around your text box by choosing In line, Wrap text or Break text.

Here are the text box alignment options:

You can also layer text boxes by drawing two text boxes within the drawing tool, placing one over the other, and then moving each text box forward or back by going to Actions > Order.

You can access the drawing tool by selecting "Insert" on the menu bar and choosing "Drawing", then "New." This will open a dialog box where you can create and format text boxes and shapes.

The drawing tool offers a variety of shapes, arrows, callouts, and line styles that can be easily customized for your needs. You can create a diagram using shapes and add text to each shape to highlight important information.

Google Docs has a standalone version of the drawing application, which has more features than the Documents Drawing app. This version allows you to upload your own images as part of the drawing, and you can download the drawing as an image to your Google Drive and insert it into your document.

To add a text box using the drawing tool, you can choose "Text Box" on the dialog box and type in the text you want. You can also adjust the size of the text box to your desired dimensions.

By using the drawing tool, you can create a text box that can be customized and moved freely within your document. However, you must open the drawing tool to make edits to the text and the box.
