Fb Messenger Seen has made it possible to know when someone has read our messages. This feature is known as Message Read Receipts.

It's a small but significant change that can help us gauge the interest of the people we're communicating with.

Facebook Messenger Read Receipts

You can tell if someone has read your message on Facebook Messenger by looking for three possible statuses: Sent, Delivered, and Read.

The Sent status means your message has left your outbox and is on its way to the other person's inbox. The icon for this status is a small white circle with a blue checkmark inside.

The Delivered status means your message has made it to the other person's inbox. The icon for this status is a small blue circle with a checkmark inside.

The Read status means the other person has not only received your message but has also opened and read it. The icon for this status is a small circle with the recipient's profile picture inside.

To check read receipts on Facebook Messenger, look for small, circular icons in the lower right message window. If you can't find a tiny circle with the user's photo, they haven't replied to your message yet.

If you want to protect your privacy by turning off read receipts in Messenger, you can easily do so by tapping the ☰ menu, then the blue Settings icon, then Privacy & Safety, and finally toggling off the switch next to Show read receipts.

However, keep in mind that this will also prevent you from seeing your contacts' read receipts.

There are some limitations to Facebook Messenger read receipts. For instance, if the person you're conversing with uses their mobile phone to read Messenger messages and has app notifications enabled, they can read parts of your message without tripping Messenger's read receipt feature.

Here are the different ways to indicate the status of your messages on Messenger:

  • An empty circle: The message hasn't been sent.
  • An empty circle with a checkmark: The message has been sent but not yet received by the recipient.
  • A filled blue circle: The recipient has received the message.
  • A mini profile picture inside the circle: The recipient has read your message.

Monitoring Activity

Monitoring activity on Facebook Messenger can be a bit tricky, but there are some ways to do it. You can check the last active status of the person you're messaging, which is indicated by a time stamp next to their name.

This method isn't foolproof, as the person may have been active on a different device or browser. However, if you see that the person was active after you sent your message, it's likely they read it.

If you want to monitor your child's Facebook Messenger usage, you can use a parental control app. One of the best options is AirDroid Parental Control, which allows you to see everything your child does on their device, including Messenger usage.

Some of the features of AirDroid Parental Control include monitoring Facebook Messenger usage and activity, seeing who your child is talking to and what they're saying, and even remotely watching what's happening around them.

Checking and Understanding Messages

You can check the status of your Facebook messages by looking for the read receipts, which are indicated by three possible statuses: Sent, Delivered, and Read.

The Sent status means the message has left your outbox and is on its way to the other person's inbox.

The Delivered status means the message has made it to the other person's inbox.

The Read status means the other person has not only received your message but has also opened and read it.

To determine if someone has read your message, look for the Read status, which is indicated by a small circle with the recipient's profile picture inside.

You can also monitor your child's Facebook Messenger usage with a parental control app, such as AirDroid Parental Control, which allows you to see everything your child does on their device, including Messenger usage.

To check the status of your messages on Messenger, look for the following symbols:

  • An empty circle: The message hasn't been sent.
  • An empty circle with a checkmark: The message has been sent but not yet received by the recipient.
  • A filled blue circle: The recipient has received the message.
  • A mini profile picture inside the circle: The recipient has read your message.

Messenger Features and Limitations

Read receipts in Messenger are not always accurate, as users can read parts of a message without triggering the read receipt feature by long-pressing on the message alert.

You can't turn off read receipts in Messenger, they're a built-in feature that's always enabled.

If you want to keep track of messages you haven't read yet, you can mark them as unread on your end, but this won't affect the read receipt placement.

One way to avoid triggering read receipts is by reading messages that land in your "Message requests" folder.

Messages in this folder will have images covered, and you'll need to tap on them a few times to see them unobstructed.
