Design layout records are created to document the design intent and requirements of a product or system. This record typically includes a detailed drawing or diagram of the design, along with relevant specifications and notes.
A design layout record is a critical component of the design process, as it serves as a reference point for designers, engineers, and manufacturers. It helps ensure that the final product meets the design requirements and specifications.
The creation and management of design layout records can be a complex process, involving multiple stakeholders and systems. A well-organized record can help streamline this process, reducing errors and improving communication among team members.
Design layout records can be created using various software tools, such as computer-aided design (CAD) programs, and can be stored in digital formats, like PDFs or CAD files.
What is a DLR?
A Design Layout Record, or DLR, is a systematic way to identify the network elements and their attributes that make up a circuit. It's used to ensure that every network element is built and checked before the circuit is installed and tested.
The DLR provides a clear picture of the physical design and path of the circuit, as well as its logical design and accessibility. This includes the network elements, port and channel assignment, and cross connects - both hard and soft.
A DLR can include various details such as location codes for sites where equipment is housed, IP addresses, and slot assignments for network elements. It's a crucial document that helps teams install and test circuits to meet customer specifications.
Here are some of the key components that can be included in a DLR:
- Network elements, port and channel assignment
- Cross connects: hard and soft
- Rings
- Location codes for sites where equipment is housed
- IP address, slots for network elements and other fine details
DLR Process
To request a DLR, you'll need to contact your Account Manager to obtain a Design Routing Code (DRC). Certain information will need to be provided to obtain a DRC, and CLECs will also need to request an ACNA if they don't already have one.
A DRC code determines the media format for delivery of all DLRs, and each DRC may only have one DLR delivery method. If a DRC code is not provided on the Local Service Request (LSR) or Access Service Request (ASR), then a DLR will not be generated.

To request a DLR via an LSR, you'll need to use the following fields: RTR Field = D Confirmation and DLR, DSGCON Field = CLEC Contact Name, DRC Field = Pre-established Design Routing Code, and DSGCON FAX Field = DLR will be faxed to pre-established Fax number if not populated.
Here are the specific field entries required to request a Mechanized DLR-like document:
Note that DLR-Like reports are not available in the West region, and can only be requested at the time facilities are ordered through the submission of a properly formatted LSR.
Page Layout
Page layout provides a set of graphical user interfaces that allow us to interact with the object and perform all DML manipulations, such as insert, update, delete, and retrieval.
We can add required sections inside the page layout by simply dragging and dropping, and specify how many columns we can arrange the fields inside the section.

The page layout is associated with a tab, and we can configure the tab key order for each section from top to bottom or left to right.
We can also hide unnecessary fields from the layout and make fields required or read-only.
Here are the steps to create a page layout:
- Add required sections by dragging and dropping
- Specify the number of columns for each section
- Configure tab key order
- Hide unnecessary fields
- Make fields required or read-only
Note that we can customize the related list to be visible on the layout, and customize the columns and buttons to be inside the related list.
Practices and Tasks
To create a new page layout for the student object, you'll need to follow the steps outlined in the example. Create a new page layout for the student object.
You can add or remove fields from the layout and add two related lists by using the drag-and-drop feature in the Page Layouts section. Add/remove some fields from the layout and add 2 related lists.
In the related list section, you can add fields by using the wrench icon to set field properties. Add fields to the related list section.

To create a record type, you'll need to follow a specific naming convention, such as "new, Old". Create a record type called “new, Old”.
Assigning different record types and page layouts to different profiles is a great way to customize the user experience. Assign different record type and page layout to different profiles.
