Compatibility with iOS 17
If your iPhone is compatible with iOS 17, you should now have access to the new software. Apple has confirmed that the following iPhone models can run iOS 17: iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone SE (second generation and later), iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone 14 Pro.

If your iPhone isn't on the list, it won't support iOS 17. This means that if you have an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X, the latest software you'll ever be able to use on that phone is iOS 16.

Older iPhones, like the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, won't support the latest version of iOS or get any new features. However, they will still be functional for a while and will continue to receive security updates for iOS 16.

The iPhone X will stop receiving major upgrades as of September 2023, but will still get minor security and bug fixes until 2024.
The last major update the iPhone X received was iOS 16, and it won't be getting any further major upgrades.
