For those who need to transfer files between an FTP server and Amazon S3, there are several client options available. Cyberduck is a popular choice that supports S3, as well as other cloud storage services.

One key feature to consider when choosing an FTP client for S3 is the level of security it provides. Cyberduck, for example, supports encryption and secure authentication methods.

Using a reliable FTP client can save you a lot of time and hassle in the long run.

Choosing an S3 FTP Client

CrossFTP is a great option for accessing Amazon S3, allowing you to create a new site in the program and choose S3/HTTPS as the protocol.

To connect to your S3 site, you'll need to fill in your Access Key and Secret field, which can be found on the S3 site page. Regional endpoint should be used for opt-in S3 regions for the Host field.

Some S3 clients might not support this, but CrossFTP does. This allows for more flexibility when accessing your S3 site.

You can also use CrossFTP to create a bucket in S3. To do this, simply go to the root folder, choose Create a new Folder, and select whether your bucket's location is in US or EU.

Bucket names are globally unique, so make sure to choose a valid name, such as bucket2008 or 1bucket. Avoid using invalid names like _bucket or .bucket.

Once you've created your bucket, you can transfer files to and from Amazon S3 using CrossFTP's drag-and-drop feature. This makes it easy to move files around, and multiple tabs, threads, and queue modifications are supported for S3 transfers.

If you're planning to use your S3 bucket for web hosting, be sure to choose a bucket name that's a valid host name and everything should be lower case.

AWS offers a native service called AWS Transfer Family that lets you transfer files to and from Amazon S3 and EFS using four protocols: SSH SFTP, FTPS, FTP, and AS2.

This service provides access to an AWS-enabled server that allows file transfers without tweaking client settings.

The price of AWS Transfer Family depends on several factors, including the protocols used at the endpoints, your region, and the amount of data being uploaded and downloaded.

You can use various FTP clients with Amazon S3 support, such as OpenSSH, FileZilla, and Cyberduck, but be aware that costs can rise quickly.

Commander One is a free option that allows you to use AWS without incurring costs, even if you purchase the Commander One Pro version.
