The 2024 United States telecommunications hack was a massive breach that affected multiple companies in the industry.

The hack targeted several major telecommunications providers, including Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.

The attack was carried out through a sophisticated phishing campaign, which allowed the hackers to gain access to sensitive customer data.

Multiple employees at the targeted companies received phishing emails that appeared to be legitimate, but were actually designed to steal login credentials.

Telecom Hack Incident

At least nine US telecom providers have been hacked by Chinese hackers, with the goal of spying on top US political figures and government officials.

The hacking campaign, known as Salt Typhoon, has affected dozens of countries worldwide and has been ongoing for several months.

The hackers breached the networks of the telecom providers to obtain customer call records and gain access to private communications.

The FBI began investigating the Chinese hacking activity in late spring or early summer this year.

A large amount of bulk phone records were stolen, indicating where, when, and who people were communicating with, but not the content of the calls or texts.

For a limited number of people in the US government or involved in politics, the hackers were able to intercept call and text data.

The hackers also copied certain information that was subject to US law enforcement requests pursuant to court orders.

The telecom companies that have worked the longest with federal officials are the furthest along in evicting the hackers.

Verizon and AT&T are among the major telecom carriers targeted by the hackers.

The White House has released guidance to companies about how to hunt for Chinese culprits in their networks.

A large number of Americans, primarily in the Washington-Virginia area, are believed to have been affected by the hacking campaign.

The goal of the hackers was to identify who owned the phones and, if they were government targets of interest, spy on their texts and phone calls.

The FBI said most of the people targeted by the hackers are primarily involved in government or political activity.

The Chinese government has denied responsibility for the hacking.
