Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
The best thing about this prenatal yoga program is that there is a model for each trimester. Instructor Shiva Rea demonstrates each of the stretches and exercises for the first trimester, and two pregnant women show modifications for the second and third trimesters (they're even dressed in different colors for easy reference). This removes the self-doubt home-exercisers often have about the safety of certain moves--especially in that cumbersome final stage of pregnancy. Using gentle voice-over instruction, Rea and her assistants take viewers through a half hour of meditational stretches using blocks and chairs for support. She follows that up with 16 minutes of floor work: lunge pose, bridge pose, child's pose, plank pose--all with the necessary adjustments. She winds things up with a four-minute guided relaxation on her back--the traditional position--with the second-trimester woman on her side and the third on her side with one leg up on a chair. By including the different adaptations, Rea has made a program with the flexibility to carry an expectant mom through her entire pregnancy--and beyond, if she wishes. --Kimberly Heinrichs

Reviews:

Gentle stretches but not a rigorous yoga experience
I have another Shiva Rea DVD which I use fairly frequently so after I got pregnant I thought I would purchase this in hopes it would include some modifications that I needed to be aware of without sacrificing the intensity. But honestly, I find the whole DVD a little silly. First of all, she sounds stoned in the intro section (which gives my husband a good laugh, as well as the extended (no pun intended) kegel strengthening section). The other yogis are dressed in brightly colored unitards and I keep getting distracted by how much Poppy (third trimester) resembles Winnie-the-Pooh. (And whose idea was it to put a second trimester woman in a grape colored body suit?) There's just not enough here to keep anyone other than a very beginner interested or inspired. However it feels safe and fairly relaxing so it might be something you use as a back up (or to keep those uterine walls strong strong strong)!

Relaxing, but not much of a workout
I purchased this video and began using it in my second trimester. I have been practicing yoga for a few years and consider myself to be 'intermediate' in skill, knowledge, etc. I like that this video has an actual person in each trimester working out along with Shiva so you know who to follow for modifications. It is a nice, relaxing practice; however not challenging at all if you are already familiar with yoga. That being said, it is very relaxing and provides a nice full body stretch. It is divided into sections, with the entire video lasting just under an hour. I would recommend this video for someone just getting into yoga or just to keep your body somewhat flexible during pregnancy.

Ok yoga workout. Good for beginners and those in third trimester
I worked out on a very regular basis before becoming pregnant. Yoga was one of my favorite workouts. As I got further along in my pregnancy I began searching for prenatal workout videos. After reading reviews on Amazon I purchased this DVD. I found it to be almost too easy in my first and second trimesters. Now that I am in my third trimester and my belly is larger I am enjoying the pace of the video more. It is very slow. Even though I am in my third trimester I still follow the second trimester adaptions. The third trimester adaptions seem too easy. I also wish the video was a tad bit shorter. It is almost an hour long and I perfer 30minute workouts. Since it is broken up in different sections you can do just certain parts of the workout. Easy workout that I think will be great for beginners or those who want a slow paced yoga workout, not for those who want a challenging workout video that will make you sweat.

Wish I'd Had More Time to Use This DVD
I had this DVD recommended from a friend. I was in the middle of my third trimester and was very uncomfortable, so I thought I'd give Prenatal Yoga a try. Once I got the DVD I was only able to use it a couple of times before I ended up having the baby. It was very relaxing and really helped my sore body the few times I was able to use it. I will definitely be using it earlier on the next time I am pregnant.

Worthwhile
I purchased Prenatal Yoga about a month ago and I'm so glad I did. It is a wonderful way to relax and prepare your body for a new baby. The stretches focus on all of the areas of the body that are affected by pregnancy. After this yoga session, the overall serene and renewed feeling is quite welcome! I definitely recommend this DVD!
