My Favorite Yoga Video
I had this yoga video forever ago when it was first mentioned in SELF, and I even bought a copy for a friend, I loved the video so. Then, I lost it, along with everything else, in Hurricane Katrina, but this video was one of the few things that I sought to replace exactly as I had it before. I've even had a friend put it to DVD for me, because I've never seen it available on DVD, and I'm paranoid that I'll break my tape.
Some expert yogis will bicker over this position or that host's voice, but for me, the bottom line is that I know this video gives me a decent workout that leaves me with an awesome spent feeling at the end. I don't ask for much more.
Seen one Heat Live..seen em all
I've seen Beginner, Interm, and advanced. I could not hang with any of it for too long. Its good for others I'm sure. There is too much talk all around. They are so into themselves that they sound as if they just talking to hear themselves or selling a commercial..or better yet "their" yoga style. Why such a croweded small room with some people who are like long legged tall and others very short..I get this uneven, cramped feeling..but on the other hand some would think its good replica of live classes and of the variety of bodies in class. Three tapes for commercial boost...all basically the same.
Best of the BEST!
OK, so everyone has an opninion, but I have to agree with SELF Magazine on this one...this video ROCKS! I actually got the enbtire 3-video set and began with the beginner one (that one is led by another teacher named lauren I think). The set is perfect combo of being friendly and not too intimidating, giving great instruction, letting me sweat like crazy and not using postures that make we want to say huhhhh??? Jonathan's energy is wonderful and inspiring, too. I have been to the studio, Sonic Yoga, in New York and taken class from him in person since getting the videos and, honestly, it was the best yoga class I've ever taken. FYI - the full 90-minute studio flow...WOW! Jonathan told me after class that they will be releasing full-flow DVDs in sept '03, too, every month, featuring a new posture each month and they're gonna publish a full posture library on sonicyoga.com, too. this will be very helpful.
Oh I am so sorry to say this...
I just did this tape this morning and I have to say that I was disapointed. He is a very good instructor with a gentle, supportive and informative manner but the tape itself is sort of boring. It is just the basics, a kind of first series run through. For a tape labeled intermediate I have to say that I expected a bit more. I think of myself as an almost intermediate and there was very little challenge here. I kept waiting for the sweat but it just didn't happen. Perhaps the Advanced tape?
ok but not great
I hate to say anything negative but i did not find this video to be anything special. I like Jonathan's instruction very much but have some reservations about the video. There is very little floor work or work on flexibility as most is focused on standing work. There is lots of repetition. With all this prep I think he should have gone on to a bit more floor work esp since you are certainly warm enough to be very ready for some flex work. and to me it certainly is not an intermediate level video. Advanced beginner maybe. I consider myself to be almost intermediate and and I am 53 yrs old and I did not find much of a challenge here. But all that said, his instruction is lovely. He is informative and very genuine. It is a good tape to use as an alternate I think or when you just want to come back to basics,do some sweating and kind of be on autopilot.
