Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
Not an ideal choice for younger kids, this hip and violent animated feature from Disney was nevertheless a huge smash in theaters and on video, and it continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed Broadway production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is sabotaged by a rivalrous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the "circle of life" with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. Characters are very strong, vocal performances by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg are terrific, the jokes are aimed as much (if not more) at adults than kids, the animation is sometimes breathtaking, and the music is more palatable than in many Disney features. But be cautious: this is too intense for the Rugrat crowd. --Tom Keogh

The Lion King
The Movie Lion King is a great movie for children of all ages to watch. The movie is based on how a young lion Simba (played by Jonathan Taylor Thomas) is prince of the "Pride Lands", Simba can't wait till be king. One day his uncle Scar misleads him into going to the most dangerous place in the "Pride Lands". Later on his father gets killed and Scar (played by Jeremy Irons) blames Simba of killing Mufasa (played by James Eark Jones). Simba runs away because he thinks it is better that way. While he is trying to find his perfect place, he runs into a Warthog Pumba (played by Ernie Sabella) and a Meerkat Timon (played by Nathan Lane). The two animals help raise him until Simba is older (Adult Simba played by Mathew Broderick). Simba then runs into a old friend Nala (younger Nala played by Niketa Calame and Adult Nala played by Moira Kelly). Nala has tried to tell Simba they need him back to "Pride Lands". I approve this movie to be watched by children of all ages. Thank you for reading my review. Rebecca H.

Kimba Controversy
the lion king is a great movie...i own it, i own all of the disney movies, i have a very large collection... like "all" the other disney movies...my kid watches it all the time. but when the film the lion king was released in 1994 it caused a huge controversy among the japanese and fans worldwide of the tv series "kimba the white lion" kimba the white lion was a remake of bambi, created by dr. tezuka from japan. the film was to inspire people to love animals...only the lead character was to be a lion instead of a deer. the director of bambi and snow white quit working for disney and started to direct a story with characters about a lion named "zimba" with a "z" , but the rival company went bankrupt and never produced zimba... afterwards the japanese respectfully asked to use bambi: "The Tezuka/Disney connection extends back into time. Dr. Tezuka sought out and obtained the license to adapt Disney's Bambi into manga for the Japanese market. Tezuka met Walt Disney at the 1964 World's Fair, at which time Disney said he hoped to "make something just like" Tezuka's Astro Boy . And Disney animators were hired to train Tezuka's crew in the use of color when production was started on the Jungle Emperor/Kimba the White Lion TV series." (quote taken from wikipedia) the kimba controversy does not involve, so much the story line, yet rather the actual characters and artwork ... all the characters and alot of the artwork were obviously inspired by(taken from) the kimba series. if you see the characters....you will see why there is a controversy below is a link to some examples: (excluded by [...]) before assuming that disney would never do such an awful thing, you owe it to yourself, to research the entire controversy first. do a search yourself about the Kimba/Lion king controversy... this wasn't so much the fault of the animators, story writers, or actors as it was the way it was produced to the public. had they given one line, just one, to Tezuka and his crew in the credits of this film, i would gladly have given it 5 stars. wake.

One of the magnificent animated movies of the 90s. Second to NONE!!
I loved this movie. I first saw it in the theaters with my Father. *major, MAJOR spoiler ahead* .... .... .... When Mufasa, Simba's father died, I cried and so did my Father. It was great. It made you emotional, and the music was catchy and very good! I remember "Just Can't Wait To Be King" like it was yesterday. That song is the bomb!! Scar was evil, the hyenas were crazy, and Nala was cute. Worth watching, even if you don't like your usual Disney movie... 6/5 stars.

Great Animation
The Lion King was a great movie. Well written, great animation and voice overs were done in a great manner. The whole concept of the story with the struggles and the good times should remind everyone that there are always hard times in life and that everyone can overcome them.
