Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
Veteran instructor Denise Austin presents an interval-training workout that alternates 3.5 minutes of traditional aerobic dance for fat-burning with 1.5 minutes of muscle conditioning, repeating this combination for a 31-minute cardiovascular workout. The concept behind interval training is that you get your heart rate up with the aerobic minutes, and because the muscle minutes are brief, your heart rate stays elevated, letting you continue to burn calories at a high rate. The aerobic moves are traditional aerobic dance, easy- to medium-difficulty choreography, both low- and high-impact. The patterns use moves such as pony, twists, grapevine, and lunges, and are repeated often. Austin teaches the body-sculpting segments with careful attention to alignment; however, she uses only one set of weights for both large and small muscle groups. (You'll get more effective strength training by using heavier weights for your stronger muscles.) The music is disco-era oldies such as She Works Hard for the Money and It's Raining Men. Austin also leads a segment of standing leg lifts and squats, and a varied and effective abdominal section. This workout, set on a beach, will suit you if you don't like complicated choreography and don't mind many repetitions. --Joan Price

Reviews:

I think there are two different versions
When I first got this tape, it had music and lyrics, but unfortunately, it was eaten by my VCR. When I bought a new one, I was disappointed that there were no lyrics to the songs, but it's still a good workout and it's one of my favorite tapes! The new tape that I got did not say on its cover that it featured classic songs. I thought there was a problem with royalties upon releasing a different edition, but mabye it is counterfeit. Does anybody know? Aside from that, this video really works for me! I like the fact that its slightly under an hour because it is realistic for someone like me who exercises every morning despite a demanding schedule. I personally like Denise's constant pep talk; it keeps me motivated despite the missing song lyrics! What I got most out of this video were effective weight exercises without a bench. I also mix this video with a variety of others so that I stay challenged. Overall, "Sizzler" is an enjoyable, effective, and complete workout. If you end up with the edition without song lyrics, make sure you got it for really cheap like I did!

Great Cardio mix THAT'S FUN!!!
I will say it loud and clear, I hate aerobics!! I am not a dancer and I do not like jumping around in a leotard or feeling like a failure because I can't follow the steps. This tape was different. The moves were easy to follow, I kept my heart rate up, and I had FUN!! I actually look forward to my cardio days now. I am using this tape with "Blast Away 10 lbs" and reaping the benefits of a killer bod!

Different versions of the same tape???
I originally got this video several years ago - it took me a while to warm up to Denise's style, but the workout itself - one of the best all-around workouts I've ever found on video. Well, my old video finally wore out and I had to buy a replacement of my stand-by dependable workout - and to my horror, the original soundtrack had been replaced by a ghastly synthesizer version. NOTE: I did not buy this from Amazon but an equally reputable source. Now, I don't know what the deal is - did I get a counterfeit? There's absolutely NOTHING on the packaging that's different or indicates in any way that the video is a different version. (The visuals and voice audio are the same). The soundtrack for the abs part of the video IS the same as the original, go figure. It's a great workout, but if not you're psyched by "She works hard for the money" to begin with, imagine it done as a bad synth version. I really struggled to finish the workout, I was so disappointed. I'm demanding my money back, but I would really love to get a copy of the original version. I don't know what you will get if you buy this from Amazon. But BUYER BEWARE - there are 2 (or more?) versions out there...

Gold Series Sizzler Missing the Words to the Songs
The workout is great, but I was disappointed to receive a video that had great workout songs such as "It's Raining Men," without the words! It was all instrumental. My advice is to order the video with the same title that does NOT say Gold Series on it. Perhaps the words are included in that version!

Definitely worth the buy!
I have to say, I'm primarily a videotape workout person. No gyms relatively close so I rely on tapes. I have plenty of tapes and must say this is the one I'm most likely to stick with. If you're a baby boomer, you'll appreciate the music. Although the more you use it, the more likely you might be to put on your own while following this tape. Her cuing is a little off...but the workout is enjoyable (as workouts go) and the dance is fun. The fact that she incorporates weight training for one minute intervals breaks this tape up nicely and keeps you focused. I highly recommend this if you're looking for intermediate cardio with light weight training.
