Reviews:

Good PPV With A Bad Gimmick
This PPV perfectly illistrated the main problem with World Championship Wrestling thoughout it's run. While the wrestling quality is here, it's completely overshadowed by "wrestlecrap" ideas, storylines, and politics. This PPV was a crossover promotion with the Robocop movie to the point where they had Robocop come in & protect Sting from the Four Horsemen attacking him during one part of the PPV. Luckly, this skit only last around 5 mins. so you can fast foward though it quickly eventhough it's funny to watch how cheesy this angle was over 15 years ago. As usual with the WCW/NWA tapes during this time, it was edited down to two hours long so the first three matches feauring Mark Callous (who would become The Undertaker in WWF a year later), Road Warriors, Kevin Sullivan, Cactus Jack, Bam Bam Bigelow, ect. were not on this tape. Hair vs. Hair Match: Precious Paul Ellering vs. Teddy Long - This was a short comedic managers match that went 2 mins. resulting in Teddy Long getting his hair cut in the end. It was a match that served it's purpose. NWA United States Tag Team Champions Brian Pillman & Z-Man vs. Midnight Express - Jim Cornette was held in a cage at ringside. This was a fast paced match that would expect from the likes of all four men with some technical wrestling mixed in with high flyin'. Eventhough it was the longest match on the tape, it sure didn't seem that way by watching the match. Corporal Punishment Match: Rock 'N Roll Express vs. Fabulous Freebirds - I guess since they were in Washington D.C., they felt the need to have a special name for this match but it's really just a strap match eventhough the strap wasn't really used much during the match. It's solid from top to bottom as you have two of the best tag teams from the mid 80s to early 90's going at it here. NWA Tag Team Champions Steiner Brothers vs. Doom - This match surpassed the other match I've seen from these two (Starrcade '89) as Doom weren't glorified jobbers here. During this time, the Steiners were unbeatable & Doom did what seemed like the impossible & finally beat the Steiners to win the tag titles in what was a hard hitting performance from both men as you saw the potential Ron Simmons had as Butch Reed showcased his finest performance since his WWF days while the Steiners...well, we all know how great the Steiner Brothers were back then. Steel Cage Match: NWA Champion Ric Flair vs. Lex Luger - They used the ThunderCage that also caged the outside ring area instead of just the ring itself. This match wasn't as good as their previous matches, it was still solid & enjoyable but it was the booking that made this match worse than what it was. Luger was put in the position to stall Flair until Sting got better from his injury so nobody really expected Luger to walk out with the title. And even when it looked like Luger was actually going to win the title, Ole Anderson had the cage lifted for the Horsemen to attack Luger & get Flair disqualified. That's right, a disqualification for outside interference in a cage match...which defeats the purpose of a cage match. The match itself was as good as any other Luger/Flair match but the booking just makes it look worse in comparison to the others. Overall, the undercard here was solid from bottom to top (if you can get past the bad booking of the main event). This was probably one of the best events of WCW in 1990 so I recommend this to view at a cheap price.

Possibly the lamest moment in NWA/WCW history on this tape.
The NWA/WCW was far and away the better product to the WWF/E in the 80's and early 90's. Instead of having men dressed up as clowns or wrestlers who were also doctors and such, the NWA/WCW focused more on realistic story lines which led to some fantastic and bloody matches. But every now and then they would do something stupid. Capital Combat 90 is one of those times. Now many would suggest that the lamest moment ever in WCW was in 93 when the whole Shock Master incident happened. And even though that is bad, nothing can compare in my opinion to what WCW called "The Return of Robocop". Yes, I said Robocop. They actually had The Robocop character appear on the pay per view to protect Sting from the hands of 4 Horsemen. I don't know what was worse, the Horsemen pretending to be afraid of a fictional character or the fact that Jim Ross who is truly a company man put it over with the same intensity as a Flair/Steamboat match up. But with all that said I totally endorse anyone who likes to purchase wrestling tapes to pick this up and see it for yourself. It is truly classic stuff.
