Final Analysis

This film, which again pairs Richard Gere and Kim Basinger (who starred in 1986's No Mercy), offers up elements of classic noir: a hapless man becomes intimately involved with a beautiful blonde who may or may not be who or what she appears to be. Dedicated psychiatrist Isaac...

No Brains is more like it. Richard Gere stars in this slick action thriller as your basic tough-but-dedicated cop who goes to New Orleans to avenge the death of his partner. On the way, he becomes involved with an illiterate Cajun beauty (Kim Basinger in the kind of role that unk...

The temptation here is to make a joke about Intersection and dead ends--but this disappointing film has too much talent involved to kid about how wrong it went. Based on the French film Les Choses de la Vie, the film was adapted by the usually reliable Marshall Brickman (Anni...

The movie that heralded the French New Wave movement, this lean and exciting 1959 film directed by Jean-Luc Godard (A Woman Is a Woman, Weekend) broke new ground not only in its unorthodox use of editing and hand-held photography, but in its unflinching and nonjudgmental portraya...

Reviews:

Spectacular Eye Candy for Either Gender
It took me a second viewing to really appreciate this film. Since then I have watched it many times. This is one of the rare movies where Richard Gere has an equally attractive co-star (Valerie Kaprisky). Intersection with Sharon Stone would be another example. Richard and Valerie are hard to beat as pure eye candy. They apparently agreed, as word has it that they embarked on a tempestuous affair after this film. I believe she was only nineteen when the movie was made. The eclectic soundtrack makes this film all the better. It includes rockabilly kings Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley to a hypnotic version of Phillip Glass' Openings to Message of Love by the Pretenders. If you've ever had a bad boy pulling on your heartsrings at a tender age, you will understand why Monica felt irresistibly drawn to Jesse. You will also appreciate that in the end she gathered the resolve to pull away. This is the kind of affair that lodges in a corner of your heart for a long time, possibly for good.

BREATHLESS
IT'S FUN AND SEXY...VERY 80'S...THEY DON'T MAKE MOVIES LIKE THIS ANYMORE... IT'S THE RICHARD GERE SHOW !!!!

Reckless!
This is definetly one of Richard Gere's sexiest flicks and is even sexier than AMERICAN GIGALO, and AN OFFICER & A GENTLEMAN, plus I couldn't help admiring the steamy intimacy scenes with Richard Gere and Valerie Kaprisky, especially when they're in bed together after making love in Monica's studio apartment after showing a sexy nude scene in the shower with Valerie and Gere in full frontal nudity showing Gere's weenie as well as Valerie's coochie and tatas, which was probably Richard Gere's best sex scene of all times out of all the movies he's done throughout his whole acting career, not to mention that it took alot of guts for Valerie to prance around nude in front of the camera while filming this movie, since they showed Valerie and Gere naked so many times in this movie, which made them like eyecandy for people. It's just too bad that Gere had to play a bad guy and a low-life in this movie and that Monica(Valerie Kaprisky) being a foreign exchange student from France with her whole life ahead of her on the brink of getting her college degree at UCLA had to end up falling for sleazy Jesse Lujack(Richard Gere)ruining her whole life by humping around with him and being on the run with a sadistic low-life crook like that.

Lifeless
I've not seen Jean-Luc Godard's original but it has to be better than this overripe film. I'd call it a case of style over substance but there's no discernible style here. Richard Gere's preening narcissistic punk is downright grating. You wonder what Valerie Kaprisky's architecture student sees in this jerk. But, then, Kaprisky's only real talent on display here is shedding her clothes. Which leads to the film's mandatory love scenes. Boring! There's no compelling reason to see this mediocrity.

I liked it!
The two leads were incredibly beautiful actors, who were enjoyable to watch. The storyline held my interest and I thought Richard Gere did a great job. His obsession with the French woman and his shiftlessness were believable. I've never seen the original film.
