Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
Mel Brooks' renowned spoof of the most famous Hitchcockian classics-"Vertigo," "The Birds," "Psycho" and "Spellbound"-is one of his most outrageous comedy classics. After a Harvard psychiatrist (Brooks) takes over the Psycho-Neurotic Institute for the Very, Very Nervous, he realizes his predecessor died under suspicious circumstances. When events take a murderous turn, he is accused of the crime and left with a full blown case of High Anxiety. Madeline Kahn, Harvey Korman and Cloris Leachman co-star in this hilarious parody.

Young Frankenstein
Young Frankenstein

If you were to argue that Mel Brooks's Young Frankenstein ranks among the top-ten funniest movies of all time, nobody could reasonably dispute the claim. Spoofing classic horror in the way that Brooks's previous film Blazing Saddles sent up classic Westerns, the movie is both a l...
Silent Movie
Silent Movie

One of Mel Brooks's weaker vehicles, this 1976 feature finds a movie producer (Brooks) deciding that the public is ready for the silent film form again. Reasonably ambitious and promising, the film ultimately doesn't do for silent cinema what Brooks did for atmospheric horror (by...
To Be or Not to Be
To Be or Not to Be

No filmmaker seems to take such glee at poking fun of the Nazis as Mel Brooks. In To Be or Not to Be, a remake of a 1942 Jack Benny comedy, Brooks and an all-star ensemble cast have a splendid time working as a makeshift Polish underground in World War II, using as their cover t...
Robin Hood - Men in Tights
Robin Hood - Men in Tights

It's not Blazing Saddles, but there are some chuckles to be found in Mel Brooks's 1993 spoof of the Robin Hood legend. Cary Elwes is Robin (with a lighthearted jab at Kevin Costner's bad English accent in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves), while Richard Lewis plays an angst-ridden K...
Twelve Chairs
Twelve Chairs

Mel Brooks's 1970 comedy (his second work as a film director) is based on an old Russian folktale, and was first filmed in Yugoslavia in 1927. The story concerns an old woman who reveals on her deathbed that she has hidden jewels inside one of 12 chairs that were formerly in her ...

The Producers (Deluxe Edition)

Mel Brooks's directorial debut remains both a career high point and a classic show business farce. Hinging on a crafty plot premise, which in turn unleashes a joyously insane onstage spoof, The Producers is powered by a clutch of over-the-top performances, capped by the odd coupl...
Dracula - Dead and Loving It
Dracula - Dead and Loving It

In 1995, it was promising to hear that Mel Brooks was creating "the companion piece to Young Frankenstein." He had also brought in the heavyweight of deadpan--Leslie Nielsen. As Lt. Frank Drebin in the Police Squad movies, Nielsen has no peer for silly stuff--just the player Broo...
Spaceballs
Spaceballs

Mel Brooks's 1987 parody of the Star Wars trilogy is a jumble of jokes rather than a comic feature, and, predictably, some of those jokes work better than others. The cast, including Brooks in two roles, more or less mimics the principal characters from George Lucas's famous stor...

Reviews:

High Anxiety
One of the funniest Mel Brooks movies ever. The take-off on Psycho is one of the best scenes in the film. My copy arrived quickly and in good order so I am totally pleased with everything.

consider me insane!!!
after watching this movie, i find it ridiculously hard to believe anyone couldn't find this movie funny. From beginning to the end, the Hitchock spoofs were hilarious. So many funny little odities in the movie make it worth watching over and over, just because you find other funny things each time. From the suspenseful background movie music thats actually a orchestra passing in a bus to the patient at the Psychoneurotic Institute for the Very, Very Nervous with the werewolf nightmares. This movie will make you laugh over and over. If it doesn't, you are TOO serious.

Mel spoofs Hitch--and gets crapped on by pigeons for his effort
Very little that is funny or works here. Loved The Producers, though (1968 original version.) Sorry, Mel. I know, comedy is tough to do. If it makes you feel any better, I think Sir Alfred is waaay overrated.

Very Subtle If You Didn't See Hitchcock Films
I frequently give this movie as a gift.....That's the case this time. If people have seen "The Birds", "North by Northwest" or "Vertigo" they get it and are rolling in the aisles. If they don't know Alfred's work, they just don't get it.

The women steal High Anxiety
Now 30 years old, this movie didn't make me laugh as much this time as it did when I first saw it so many years ago. The women, especially Cloris Leachman as the evil head nurse and Madeline Kahn as the love interest, steal the show. Of course, Alfred Hitchcock deserves some credit, too. And this movie is still one of Mel Brooks' best.
