      My Everything

Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
In an era of fast-food divas and ready-made starlets, finding the genuine article is often as hard as finding a needle in a haystack. Anita Baker could not have picked a better time for her return to music. After a decade-long hiatus, the soulful songstress returns with her eagerly anticipated Blue Note debut, My Everything. The 10-track disc doesn't disappoint. Lush, emotive, and gorgeous are a few words that come to mind when listening to the Toledo, OH native's album. Lead single "You're My Everything" opens the album with an infectiously smooth groove that reminiscent of her classics. The album also includes "You're My Everything Revisited," a jazzy interpolation of the aforementioned single. Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds joins Baker on "Like You Used to Do." The ballad, with its warm electric guitar-accented backdrop, evokes a classic R&B sound without dating itself. Other standouts include "I Can't Sleep," and the heavenly "Close Your Eyes." If the album had any real flaws, it's that Baker's serene sound rarely wavers. Still, "My Everything" could serve as a tutorial to aspiring R&B singers on what it means to deliver music with style, class, and true artistry. --Rashaun Hall

Anita Baker is a legendary vocal embellisher; she can hold the end of a line and bend that final syllable through several notes in her trademark smokey alto, thus giving the lyric an extra emotional twist. Audiences love this sort of vocal ornamentation, and a singer must resist ...

Rapture

Soul has been through a lot of changes of late, and if there seems to be an oversupply of young divas-in-waiting today, you can probably thank Anita Baker for it. Baker was one of the few singers that bridged the old school to the new, and this 1986 album was--and is--a true soul...

Baker's deservedly obscure 1983 debut was reissued in 1991, long after her 1986 Rapture CD had garnered a Grammy and established her as a sophisticated, sensuous balladeer. Baker's smoky alto is recognizable enough, but it lacks the emotional immediacy and dramatic phrasing of he...

Reviews:

A MOST WELCOMED RETURN FOR THIS SOUL LEGEND, AND HOPEFULLY WE WON'T HAVE TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER 10 YEARS BEFORE WE GET THE NEXT ONE
Nothing different, just Pure/Simple Anita Baker! No Guest Rappers (Thank God). Smooth and breezy from start to finish! It seems like Anita Baker & Blue Note work well together (The company DID put some serious Marketing & Promotion behind this project). Key Cuts: The Title Track, "Like You Used To" (A Duet With Babyface), "How Could You", and the cute: "Men In My Life". A Straight Jazz album would be reallllll nice....She's at the right label.

Boring!!! Nothing groundbreaking here.
I was looking forward to this and was disappointed to hear a new album that sounds like more of her old stuff. :-(

Don't burn your brigdes behind you!!
Babyface sued singer Anita Baker for allegedly failing to pay him for a song he produced for her. He filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against fellow R&B artist Anita Baker alleging she owes him at least $250,000. Babyface co-wrote and produced the incredible song "Like You Used to Do,". It's kinda hard to beleive this, but it seems Anita decided to con her producer even if the album went gold with 500,000 sold copies. I purchased this CD because I had heard about this duet with Babyface and "Like You Used to Do" is the best track on the album.

Very nice CD !
I love Anita but I am not crazy about her latest one! It's too short and doesn't add anything to her discography. But I like it the same, because I like her voice. It has been long time that I play it ! I have to admit that my favorite album ,at the moment,is the fantastic 'LAZY AFTERNOON' by another great Lady,Regina Belle. Have you tried it ? Do it,you'll love it.....
