      Tammy Cochran

Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
The men who haunt songs like "Better Off Broken," "Say Goodbye," and "Going, Going, Gone" on Ohioan Tammy Cochran's powerful and resolutely country debut album tend to be unfaithful, irresolute whiners and losers. The good news is that again and again Cochran finds thrilling musical inspiration and exhilarating self-empowerment in watching this parade of fools fade to nothingness in her emotional rear-view mirror. Whether on bittersweet fiddle- and steel-adorned ballads like "What I Learned from Loving You," triumphant celebrations of self-discovery like the sassy "So What," or a heartfelt personal memoir like "Angels in Waiting," Cochran consistently displays the wonderfully countrified poise and vocal artistry of a young 21st-century Tammy Wynette. --Bob Allen

Never Love You Enough

The title tune that kicks off Chely Wright's fourth album is a typically overwrought country-pop love pledge, but on other tunes Wright cuts masterfully to love's twisted chase with anguished musical vignettes of romantic ambiguity. Women who aren't loved enough ("Jezebel," "Deep...

Reviews:

tammy is enough
This self-titled CD from Tammy Cochran is built on straight up, few frills, country singing. Tammy's got a good voice for country music and the songs are based on her vocals and uncomplicated, but good, instruments. The songs have good storytelling about the struggles and little victories in the life of an individual woman. The album is most definitely country but still accessible to fans of other genres who can appreciate a good singer singing about life. Good tunes: I Cry So What That Ain't Right When Love Was Enough Better Off Broken

Tammy continues country tradition
Like the legend that she was named after, Tammy sings traditional country songs about life's ups and downs with real feeling. Sadly, Tammy Cochran emerged on the scene at a time when American country radio wasn't interested in traditional country music. It says a lot for Tammy's talents that she got as much airplay as she did, though nothing like as much as she deserved. This is Tammy's debut album - there has been one since (Life happened, which I've already reviewed) but I'll be pleasantly surprised if any more are forthcoming. It includes a cover little-known oldie - What I learned from loving you. Kenny Rogers (on his album, We've got tonight) and Lynn Anderson (on her album on the Permian label) both recorded the song in 1983, Lynn's version being a country hit. I am a huge fan of both those singers but Tammy's version is as good as theirs. The remaining songs are (as far as I know) all originals except Going going gone (a cover of a Sherrie Austin song, from her album, Following a feeling) and include the country hits If you can, So what and Angels are waiting, a song inspired by her brothers who were the victims of cystic fibrosis. Elsewhere, the album is full of songs about love's ups and downs, which Tammy performs superbly. If you enjoy traditional country music, give Tammy a listen.

ANGELS IN WAITNG
MY BABY BROTHER PASSED AWAY IN MAY THE DAY AFTER MOTHERS DAY AND I TOOK IT VERY HARD, MY BROTHER WAS 33YRS OLD AND HE LOVED COUNTRY MUSIC,THE DAY AFTER HE PASSED I SAT IN MY ROOM AND LISTENED TO COUNTRY CURRENTS ALL DAY,AT ONE POINT I HEARD THIS SONG PLAYING AND THE WORDS CAUGHT MY ATTENTION,I JUST CRIED AND THOUGHT HOW BEAUTIFUL THIS SONG IS,I FELT MY BROTHER COME TO ME AND IT WAS LIKE HE WAS TELLING ME "IM AT PEACE AND IM WAITING FOR MY WINGS,I HAVE NO MORE PAIN AND ILL ALWAYS BE YOUR GAURDIAN ANGEL"SO EVERYNIGHT I TALK TO HIM,HE IS THE BRIGHTEST STAR THAT SHINES,HE WAS ALWAYS OUT STANDING,THE WORDS TO ANGELS IN WAITNG IS TOUCHING AND VERY MOVING,I MISS MY BABY BROTHER,THANK U TAMMY FOR LETTING ME SHARE MY THAUGHTS.

Great writing + powerful voice = stellar debut
I bought Tammy Cochran's first CD after hearing her heart-tugging single "Angels in Waiting". The song was written about her two brothers who were taken by Cystic Fibrosis. She co-wrote the song and wears her emotions on her sleeve. It is inspiring - my eyes tear up every time I hear it on the radio. The rest of the CD does not disappoint, it is just as powerful. Big name writers abound - Roxie Dean and Jamie O'Neal ("So What"); Sherrie Austin ("Going, Going Gone") and Lisa Brokop ("Better Off Broken") - and Tammy also co-wrote 2 of the 10 songs. Her voice is BIG without being overpowering on "If You Can", a steel-guitar heavy song about making a tough choice. "So What" is about leaving 'Mr. Wrong' behind, and being better for it. "What I Learned From Loving You" is a ballad with a bit of a blues-vibe to it. "When Love Was Enough" is about when you are with the one you love and material things and money don't matter. My favorite songs - "Better Off Broken" and "I Cry" - are both upbeat songs about getting over someone, little by little.I am shocked Tammy Cochran is not more popular already, but I think her star is definitely on the rise! Faith and Shania should try to be more like her

About Angels in Waiting...
When I hear that Tammy dedicated this song to 2 little boys that had passed away due to cystic fibrosis, I just had to listen to it. I must confess that I'm not much of a country fan, but this song has a place in my life now. I had never heard of this illness, up until my (now) 2 year old niece, Jasmine, was born with this affliction, and she holds my heart in her hands. When Tammy sings the lyrics, "they always knew they'd never grow old...", it's because the life span for those who are born with this, isn't as long as it should be. Some live such a short life, they barely have time to make a few memories to take with them. Lucky ones get past the age of 10, mabey 20, but not many enjoy life past 35 years of age. They have yet to find a cure for it. Tears come to my eyes now everytime that I listen to those words, and I long to give my life for my niece's. Though she's here with us now, it's a horrible feeling I get everytime I hold her, like she's already been taken from me. Thank you Tammy, for bringing this disease out in the open for so many, and thank you for giving me a song to sing to my niece, with all my heart...
