In the vastly overrated 1998 book Easy Riders, Raging Bulls, author Peter Biskind puts the blame for Hollywood's blockbuster mentality at least partially on Steven Spielberg's box-office success with this adaptation of Peter Benchley's bestselling novel. But you can't blame Spielberg for making a terrific movie, which Jaws definitely is. The story of a Long Island town whose summer tourist business is suddenly threatened by great-white-shark attacks on humans bypasses the potboiler trappings of Benchley's book and goes straight for the jugular with beautifully crafted, crowd-pleasing sequences of action and suspense supported by a trio of terrific performances by Roy Scheider (as the local sheriff), Richard Dreyfuss (as a shark specialist), and particularly Robert Shaw (as the old fisherman who offers to hunt the shark down). The sequences on Shaw's boat--as the three of them realize that in fact the shark is hunting them--are what entertaining moviemaking is all about. --Marshall Fine

Jaws Review
Received video in good shape and speedily. Will buy again, should the occasion arise.
Great Value
I bought this movie as a gift for my dad. I'd already owned 3 or 4 copies in various anniversary editions, but this one has the most complete set of extras. Jaws has always been my favorite movie since I saw it at the drive-in when I was a kid, so I'm a little biased on the film itself. As far as I'm concerned, this is Steven Spielberg's masterpiece as it is successful on so many levels.
SCARED you WILL BE!
My Grandparents live on the shores of
I never went swimming off the end of my grandparent's pier (in the neighborhood)
again! If you do NOT know fear - see this - if you do NOT know fright - see this - if the music doesn't get you
- you have not listened to JOHN WILLIAMS !
JAWS
I LOVED jaws 1, liked 2 even more, liked jaws 3d the best (my copy is acually in 3d!) and liked jaws 4 second best.
This 2 disc set comes with a never before seen interview with S.Spielberg, and a 2 hour documentry. It has a lot of bonous features. It also has been remastered, but not very well. Jaws 2 was remastered better.
This movie is one of the most captivating movies EVER, has an amazing score, but itsn't as scary as my mom desribed it to be. The only scene that scared me was when Hooper finds the shark tooth in the boat, and then bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. Sorry, I don't want to spoil it. I had to go back and edit that out.
Jaws- the greatest horror movie of 1975-1978
Personly i like planet of dinosaurs a little more than jaws, but jaws will always be my second favriote horror movie ever (even if it is more of a thriller)
Plot- a giant 25 foot great white shark is invading a small town called Amity, now Cheif Martian Brody (Roy Scheider), Quint (Robert Shaw), and Matt Hooper (Richard Drefyuss)(Basiclly the Three R's) are sent out to stop the vicious beast (of course after eating some bathers)
Acting- this is probably the best acted horror film of the 70's (again in my opinion)
Gore- lots of blood coughing, a severed leg, a severed arm and more
Bottom Line- 5 out of 5, even though the plot is used alot now, jaws is the first baby to do it
